Hi Andy, Nice to see a blog underway! This should be good! When can we expect the first wip update? Good luck on an unusual build - definately not your normal thing! I keep thinking about my Bronco Comet and building something 'Green' too! Ben

Nate- Thanks!!! I recall there was one in Wisc now you have mentioned. That would be the closest for us to visit from here. Glad to have you aboard... it will be fun! Bones- AWESOME! Sent you PM earlier with my email address... yes I'd love to take a look at it and I am really looking forward to it! Thanks! Yes I recall there was safety issues with the DUKW being used to haul tourists. Not long time ago more than 20 tourists died when it sunk so rapidly in Arkansas or Alabama? Rob- Thanks boss! Ejector marks? Jeez, I better take another good look at it... at least I can easily cover them with mud, oil, or stowage. That's why I love doing armors... Advin- WOW! You are truly a life saver! I was planning not to use those rope kit parts... they don't look good and I was trying to figure out how to make 'em. After watching the You Tube video clips how to make based on your suggestion... too scary and it will be difficult for that size. I think I will order those AM parts you recommended... its' either $25 or many hours coming with crappy looking results? Again thank you for the great suggestions! Ben- LOL! Was planning to start yesterday if it wasn't for freak accident cutting my finger with a broken tea cup... tonight for sure. Happy to have you tagging along my friend! This is perfect proof why I love this forum... I am already getting plenty of help from you guys! Dicky's & Luigi pics of authentic pics of DUKW, John's tip about Archer Transfer via PM, Advin's ropes suggestion, Bones' PDF copy of manual, etc. You guys make this forum the BEST!

Bill- Always a pleasure to have you tagging along. Not sure how much you can help me this time since it is not have the color of either Dunky or Panzer Grey unless you have plenty of very rare pictures of ducks to share? Rare ducks you say? How about these...

Chris- WOW! Very colorful I have to agree! Now I am daring you to build one like this. LOL Maybe this is something Dicky can do in a day or two very easily with his scratch-building talent. Thanks mate for posting this great picture! TB- Is that your Ducky you build? If so, it looks great!!! Love em cartoons... they were one of my favorites. Bill- I think they both have little touch of rust color, don't you agree? Thanks for the chuckle!

I love this project, count me in brotha! Good catch on the wheels! How about a good pic of them with the kit wheels so we can compair them? Build, build, build build That's for you BigJohn! Glad you asked... You can see how taller rivets are. Best $15 I have spent on evilBay. I am planning to use kit wheels as bumpers for both sides as seen in pictures but I have to cut the rims off...

Guys- Finally found my way back to the bench after nearly two weeks break... comparing Eduard PE and kit instructions I removed all molded objects such as wing nuts, rods, clasps, etc. Completed... all flat now. Did I ever tell you how much I love Eduard PE set? Instructions were pretty easy to follow and they bent very nicely because they were not too thin. Unlike most armor builds where we start with wheels & tracks first but not for this, started with the cockpit whatever you call it. LOL PE set has very nice texture of wood grain... had to sand the molded raised floor off before I can attach the PE floor. More to come... heading back to the bench now for a bit.

You`re welcome Andy, though I have to admit I'm a little jealous, because you got to tackle this kit before I could do! When gathering the material for mine I also bought a steerable front axle made by Resicast, if that's of any interest for you. There is further an engine available from CMK, or it also comes with the Verlinden set if you prefer that. Lots of possibilities on this one, really looking forward to your build.

Nice bit of work so far Andy!! Huge improvement on the interior. I always run through the instruction and compare PE to original parts first. I highlight all of the before I start just to keep myself on the right track!!!

Andy,I know yer one of the PE Kings on here, but is it wise to remove all that 'detail',before you've made all the PE parts up?What would happen if the ole CM gets some,or all of yer PE?

Tobi- No need to be jealous... there are so many cool camo schemes and potential diorama builds for your DUKW. At least you can learn from my mistakes if you can bear with me. LOL Again thanks for all of great information! Mr T- Thanks buddy! This time I am really enjoying the PE set... everything fits perfectly. Instructions are VERY easy to follow especially that it has correct kit part listed so I don't have to figure out which part they are talking about! Kudos to Eduard for making this very pleasant experience so far... Luigi- Thanks! Now you can go ahead and start filling up the bath tub so I can have it tested for water leaks soon... Garage- Thanks my brother! Having fun already... stayed up til 2am last nite and I had to work today. LOL Malc- Absolutely just bring more beer for us! Bill- Agreed... From now on I will buy Eduard if possible. Voyager was excellent but very fragile and instructions were little confusing for a deaf guy like me. Chris- That's what I have done in the past and with my clumsy fat fingers often I would knock other pieces off while trying to cut and sand off the molded parts. This time I am removing all at once so I don't have to worry about breaking anything. Eduard instructions are very clear I will be able to follow and I still can see old spots where they were. See how it comes out if new approach works better for me or not... I can always holler for Dicky to send me scratch built parts that I removed by accident... LOL Leon- LOL! Thanks buddy!

Guys- Quick update... was planning to post an update earlier from office but first day after 8 days vacation... crazy! Now I am starting to understand what Rob meant by those Italeri kits... thick connections. Even with good sprue cutter it wouldn't have been much help but I am so thankful for new tool my wife bought at recent show. Its my favorite... I haven't even touched my old sprue cutters since day one. Razor saw is a must to have from now on... Seats have very faint fabric texture so I am undecided if I should add some texture or not. Maybe a tissue paper... what do you think? PE floor piece was too thin and fragile so I had it attached to the old part after removing its molded vent. Now for my favorite part... the dashboard. Molded kinda looked nice but Eduard set comes with better parts. So I sanded molded part flat... After two drops of Future and allowed to dry overnight... it is how it looks now. I might add another drop or two... Eduard set comes with two sets for dashboard... film and print. I opted for print so I have film version that I don't need... anybody wants it if you are planning to build DUKW. Just PM me... That's all folks for now... hope to post another update tonight. God, I love modeling... LOL

Andy, if you're doing a WWII vehicle, don't forget to fill the rectangular drain holes in the reinforcements along the hull, as these were a post-war feature! I guess it's easier to do this timely and not wait too long for it, until too many other detail parts have been added... clumsy two of us

Rolling right along with this one Andy. Nice sanding and replacing work going on...and I hear you about Voyager stuff. They are almost as bad as Aber in terms of complexity!

Ray- Awesome! Glad to have you aboard too! In the book at the end it mentioned many cities used DUKW in Fire and Police Departments to help them in rescue operations. There were few pictures of Boston PD marked DUKW which was pretty cool I thought. Hope your bookmark is big enough because I build at snail pace. Leon- Thanks buddy! Advin- Thanks for the tip! Tell you the truth I have no idea what you are talking about... that means I know very little about this as I am still learning while building. That's why I enjoy building different subjects so I can keep learning... will let you know what I can find. Ben- of course I do remember I was one who brought this up. Loving the new tool and I am wondering how long those razors last? I have two spares for now... Bill- Thanks Tex! Am afraid I won't be on roll... feeling the effect of very little sleep last night now. LOL

The build is going just swimmingly.
That PE dash is just ducky.

Andy, great job with that razor As for the seats, I'd sand them down and redo the texture either with tissue paper or with milliput the way Guy did ...

Hi Andy, That's right come to think about it - you did! I reckon they'll last ages! As long as you only stick to cutting plastic they should be fine. I have two spares too. You can also get a mini 'Mitre Jig' for these saws so you can cut lengths of square or rod plastic at exact angles. It's all make of metal and I'm probably going to get one. I'll post a photo if I do. Ben

Mr. T- Thanks friend... just doing my best to keep up with you guys! G- LOL! Thanks buddy! Quack quack quack! Tobi- WOW! Thanks for bringing this up! You have been a huge help! This is very interesting... pictures from WWII show with and without holes but MOST of them don't have holes like you mentioned. I was planning to add a lot of green slime, rust and dirt streaks out of the holes... that's why I choose this as my next build. Here's two pictures of WWII DUKWs with holes... dig first one because of steaks coming out of the holes. Taken in UK in preparation for D-Day... Taken in France... It is possible maybe 10% of DUKWs had those... later models that arrived late? If not, then I can always go for Korea War. Luigi- Thanks buddy! I think I should refrain from trying to shave my face with the new razor? Thanks for answering my question. I do agree now after taking a good look at the seats last night. I will try the tissue technique... but first I will make them look little beat up. No kidding... saw that excellent work on seats using Milliput too... loving it! Ben- Great tip about getting jig for the razor saw... let me know who sells them? I know my LHS sell them but I don't think the new saw will fit. Thanks mate! Rob- Thanks boss! Always good hearing from you! Joe- I agree too... thanks!!! That's why I didn't attach the seats yet as I was still pondering. Will work on 'em tonight if my wife lets me. LOL
