A few weeks ago when it was too cold to AB the V1 out in the unheated garage, I plunged into another project. It's loosely based on a photo I found of a flak mounted on a 1.5 ton light truck. I'm not sure what the vehicle is in inset photo but I used what I had to get something in the same vain. I picked up the Tamiya Steyr kit last year for $5 at a local show. It looked like such a nice easy build. The drilling came from the AFV Club kit which I bought to build the infantry vehicle version. The Flak trailer comes from the Dragon "Gepard" kit which again I picked up for a song at a local show. I used the Eduard set and styrene to spruce up the model some without going overboard. The trailer will be full of crap. It looks tight but the gunner has more room than in the 251. I'm pretty happy with the wood grain on the styrene boards and might replace the basswood ones in the car. As far as details that will never be seen. I turned the wheels And added something that looks like an engine through the mesh I have a few questions regarding the Drilling and Figure. Hopefully someone can help. 1) Where did the shell casings go? It looks like chutes direct the casings into the cone. How are these cleaned out? 2) Does anyone make ammo belts for the Drilling? The AFV belts have some mold slip and the rounds are out of alignment. Very sad. 3) Is there a resin figure with the same attire and similar static pose with long coat as either the Tamiya figure or the guy in the photo? I think I'll finish this in a three color camo with whitewash remnants. I might replace the kit tires with aftermarket ones.

Really like it already! I can not answer your first two questions but I can answer third question even tho it is not in resin. Master Box has a set of Germans wearing heavy winter outfits... called 'Cold Wind'. One or two figures look perfect candidate for your build and you can always replace the head with resin heads from Hornet as they do have winter headware set too. Just a thought...

Like the scratch engine and the wood platform the gun is mounted on.

Some very nice work here, love where this one's headed! The folks over at ML can probably answer your question on the Drilling given the level of specificity of the request. The only other kit I know of that offers similar ammunition belts is DML's Drilling kit...but they aren't going to be much better than the AFV offering I'm afraid.

Deaf - Those look pretty good for another project I'm considering. Thanks. Dan - Thanks Ray - Yer right. If I'm not going to open the hood, why bother with the CMK set? I had a few do-dads in the spares bin that were close enough. I've gotten a lot of info searching ML already. I was hoping to avoid an obvious question but it sounds like these might not be. Leon - The raised wooden platform is so I didn't have to deal with filling holes in the floorboards. Bill- Reading the reviews on PMMS, the AFV club ones are slightly better and easier to work with. I'm really not looking forward to painting the rounds on either set. Iron and Model - Thanks.
I'll give ML a try.

Thanks Bruce
Zeke - Instead of a "what-if", I call it "highly likely". I'm absolutely thrilled you haven't seen this combination before since I'm making it up as I go along. Finding the photo of the converted Flak trailer to reinforce what I had already started was enough of a find for me. :-D

Making some progress in between work on the 232 Airbrushed with Tamiya Acrylics and chipped with the HS technique. My first attempt to paint large amounts of wood grain on styrene

Thanks Leon.
Thanks Clint. The camo is just freehand with very thin Tamiya paints.Thinned with their yellow cap lacquer thinner it flows really well.

Man, you are FLYING through this - and it looks spectacular! That wood grain is spot-on. Would love to know how you pulled it off.
Re: figs - there's a Dragon set of figs that has a guy in a heavy greatcoat. Believe it's called "Stalingrad Inferno"? Let me see if I can find it.

Alright, you may want to check out these ones as well: 6652, 6518, 6705 (maaaaybe).
Check out Warriors 35236...he looks pretty smug, though.

This is a sweet looking build and a great idea. Did you get an answer on the empty cases. I just checked my 251 books and theres nothing in those about the spent cases.

Thanks for all your help Dupes. Some of those G2 figs are nice. Hmmm.
Bish - Nope, no answer on the shell casings. Not even on ML. I'd like to know if I can get away with scattering a few on the floorboards.
Wood grain - Thanks for the kind words on the wood grain. I started by scribing the grain into the styrene. I used liquid cement to smooth out and remove any of the dust and burrs. To paint the effect I started with a base of Vallejo Panzer Aces Old Wood. I then applied several glazes of Vallejo Medium Gray, Light Grey, Khaki, Panzer Grey to change the tone of each board. I then mixed these colors again to paint in the wood grain with a small brush. I then applied a few more filters and a couple of washes to bring out details. I then went back with the lighter wood grain colors to add more interest. Still needs another dark wash or two.
Hope that helps.

I reckon you can. I don't see anything that would suggest the empty's went back into the ammo bins. I have both the Dragon and AFV kits of the /21 and that what I plan on doing with one of them.

Very nice camo. Love the squiggly and faded camo when done like this. The wood on the trailer looks great as well.

Now there's a nice pair together! The color variations between the WW, the three tone camo, and the gray trailer really set this one off nicely.
