Pete, thanks, I think! I'm with Carl, bit of a head-scratcher on the 'old fruit' statement. Carl, thanks as well! If I did get another Koi named Nemo, it would have to be a pearl-white one!

Hey Bill, As predicted this is looking SUPERB. I visit your own 'bpmodels' site quite often and can see that you are a big fan of the oil dot method to add those subtle but very effective streaking effects. I've bought a few decent MiG oil colours (of the right shadse) to try - I know it takes a lot of doing and a lot of time to pull off but I love the effect. I might have to pm you regarding this effect and doing it properly - i.e. the right shadess to use on what basecoat colour etc. Keep them photos coming dude! All the best, Ben

Thanks Ben! The key with the 'dot method' is to determine what the end results are you're aiming for first and then choose your 'dots' accordingly. There's no set 'formula' per se...you can use any colors with it depending on the effects you want. Some use primary colors in the process to provide more depth/vibrancy to the finish as a 'layer'. Others, like myself, use it with earth tone or variations of the base colors to produce weathering/fading/streaking. It works equally well for both and is not exclusionary...meaning if you want to do both with a sealing layer in between, there's no stopping you.

Managed to get in the most bench time in a single weekend in a long time and made the most of it with the remaining steps on the Marder II D. After making some minor adjustments here and there to last week's efforts, a sealing coat of Testors MM Lusterless Flat was applied via rattle can. While that was drying in the spray booth, I applied pigment weathering to the tracks using MIG Dry Mud. This was applied as a wet mixture using tap water as the carrier with a drop of liquid dish washing soap added to break the surface tension. The mixture was left to air dry and then excess pigment removed using a series of stiff bristled brushes until I had the look I wanted. Next came pigments for the hull, using the same wet approach but with MIG Dark Mud as the pigment of choice. After air drying, it was attacked with stiff bristled brushes along with wet and dry cotton swabs to get the final result. Then it was time to fit the tracks to both sides and fix the sprockets and idlers in position once the track tension was adjusted to the proper settings. The gun was permanently fixed into position once all the handling of the lower hull was complete and the radio antenna and mount added using an RB 2m brass antenna rod in place of the kit part. Then it was off to the photo booth for the final walk-around shots. More pics up in the Gallery: modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/thread/5575/bucking-bronco-marder-ii

Outstanding work Bill. It certainly has that "lived in" look. A very fine build crosses the finish line.

Andy, that sounds a little suspicious, she may be lulling you into a trap! Ian, no worries, glad you found it and enjoyed it all the same. Next project is a floaty (Rob's fault) so look there for it and you can see me endure the torture of working in 1/350!

Rob, well yes, but then it's your fault that the next project is what it is! Spent some time yesterday researching colors and seeing what I've already got on hand that can be used vs. having to get new stuff...with some creative mixing and adaptations, I think I've got everything I need. Fingers crossed! T, my pleasure sir! Glad you like how it came out and enjoyed the ride with me. I told my wife yesterday it always surprises me how long a build can end up taking to complete...my initial estimate on this one was maybe 6-8 weeks! Carl, thank you sir! Now back to work on your rocket monster! Tobi, Pete, Jeremy, thanks as well gang! Gary, you won't be disappointed by this beauty of a kit. Goes together nicely and is light years beyond the old Alan kit offering. It's been out for a while so starting to get a little harder to find but keep your eyes peeled for a good deal and snag it when you can!
