I have been wanting to build this partiular Stug for some time now. With Dragons new release of kit # 6593 It's now possible to build it straight out of the box, almost. I just can't resist getting this one out and starting on it. It’s not gonna be a fast build as I really want to take my time on the paint steps and plan things out. The inspiration of this build is a late war Stug III Ausf G that was captured and shipped to the US. It’s been in storage at Fort Knox and has recently been transferred to Fort Benning. It still has its original paint.

Should be a good one John . Those reference pics are real good ones . Interesting how there is no sag in the tracks like I always model them . Maybe its well maintained , no doubt .

John, I am so in on this one I may as well build it for you That StuG sure has lasted well-amazing photos! That cammo is perfect and the colours have lasted immaculately! Its interesting to see the overspray onto the wheel rubber walls, presumably the crew didn't bother with masking The world needs to rescue as many of those abandoned old wrecks of WWII AFV's as they can now or they'll be gone forever and that would be a terrible shame. Of all the Tiger I's how many have we got left in running order in the world right now. The same for every other piece of armour, too! I'll be building the 6633 very soon (it's in the stash-the zimmed version). These kits look almost identical otherwise so I'll be following CLOSELY!www.modelarmour.com/index.php?option=com_content&id=2920:dragon-stugiii-ausfg-wzimmerit&Itemid=60I love your photos - great stuff! Ben

Hey fellas, thank you for the interest in this one. I’m glad you are all following along.
After studding a good part of the night. I have come up with a conclusion of how I perceive this stug was painted.
Being this Stug was built on or after December of 1944, it would have been painted as follows. Primed in Red Oxide RAL 8012, on top of that patches of dunklegelb RAL 7028, olivefruen RAL 6003, and rotbraun RAL 8017 were sprayed in a soft edge pattern. Rotbraun being the most predominant color used. Especially from the fenders down. The only Red oxide I see exposed is where paint has been worn or chipped off.

I agree with your evaluation of the colors John . Interesting how much the shade of the colors are affected more by what looks to be dust and wear than anything else .None of the effects of rust that I can notice . Chipping seems to be minimal , if any . Weathering looks subtle but could be a challenge to achieve ...in other words Fun !

Carl, Yes I agree with you. It looks like the dust and dirt are the major players in terms of weathering. I have some more close up pictures and they do show some chipping. but no major rust. It will indeed be a chalange, but I have a plan worked out in my mind. Lets hope I can remeber it by the time I get this thing built, LOL

And so it begins. Not much accomplished, but at least its an update. I started working on steps 1 and 2, step 1 is road wheels and I can only take so much of them at one time, LOL. So I started with parts from step 2 which deals with the torsion bars and suspension. I also spent some time test fitting the upper hull components to make sure every thing will line up nice. I am experiencing some warping of parts on this one, so a little filler will be needed here and there, but nothing to complicated.

Hi BJ. This is a nice looking kit and nice start (any start's a good one!)... I see in pic#1 what looks like different primer on the wheels? I wonder if the guys from Fort Knox or Benning sprayed it? Or is it original? I like the spare wheel storage pins on the vertical plates on the stowage bin... Paul
