Nice vehicle to model in 72nd...

When I first saw the box top I said to myself, did they re-box the kit in a different cover? Then saw it was 72nd scale....

I have this kit in 1/35th...looks basically like they just re-molded it in this scale. A lot of pin marks inside the casemate so beware, good start too.

Leon,It won't be the same shade of grey,but it will be grey.Don't know if I will camo it or not.Most of the pics I can find show just the one color.

Paul,The backsides of the roadwheels where bad,but the rest of the kit seems to be pretty good.

Jeff I don’t have access to any of my references, things still packed away from the move, but I believe these vehicles only saw Panzer Gray with possibly a coat of winter white wash during the final year of use? Lots of excellent photographs in the Jentz & Doyle, Spilberger and one of the Achtung Panzer series of books on the Tiger and variants. That last book really covers well all of the modifications to the two vehicles with some nice drawings and photographs – the text is in Japanese but it gives you a good idea of what’s going on. As always I know you’ll get where you want to go on the build.

Eddy,although I don't have any books yet (wish I did maybe today?) All of the photos I have looked at online show all grey.So I think I will stay with that for now.I can always camo it up later if I find something.

Hi Jeff ! I tend to hang out in the armor section here mostly so I haven't seen your Nova yet .
I picked up Trumps 1/35th scale kit of this and was just doing some research on it yesterday . Looks like your off to good start on this one . I see it has those vinyl tracks , same with their 1/35th .I looked and Trump has replacement workable tracks for the 1/35th that I'll be using .
Mono gray exterior should be an easy paint session .

Hey Guys,glad you're here

Carl,The Nova was just a little side trip to get back to My roots so to speak and,Yeah,what can I say about vinyl tracks.Let me see.....  I have a hard time getting paint to stick to them,and track sag is a chore.The upper hull sits close anough to the lower hull so I think I should be able to put some spacers in to get the sag right.

Wouts,This is my first SPG build and had to think a little bit to get the best build sequence,but once I got that figured out it looks like it's gonna be a fairly simple job.The kit does have some nice interior details,I ended up buying a 0000 brush  Jeff T.

Jeff, I noticed you hadn’t painted the rubber section of the rear idler wheels. Maybe you already knew this, that these idler wheels were also rubber lined? Did Trumpeter leave this out of the painting instructions?

Will you be hitting the edges of the drive sprocket teeth with a silver colored pencil for that worn to the metal look? These vehicles were heavy, especially because of that big sausage of a gun (the guns muzzle brake is almost as big or bigger than an adult human chest – just don’t leave any paint brush hairs on it when you cover that part with paint, you know to simulate chest hairs), so a shiny metal finish on the teeth would not be inappropriate!

Jeff, I’ve read some things on other modeling websites concerning the vinyl tracks that Trumpeter uses on these kits. I couldn’t get a set of these to glue down using liquid cement on a T-34/85M build using their set for that vehicle and these are supposed to glue down this way according to the instructions. I ended up using super glue via an X-acto® blade and balsa shims to get them to set and stay.

Have fun camping and don’t accidently drop this project into the campfire and also watch out for those squirrels, they might be attracted to the shiny metal dive sprockets and become interested in taking it back home with them?

As far as the tracks go,the instructions didn't say what to glue them together with.All it said was if the tracks where broken to hold them together with staples or thread ???I used a slow setting super glue on them and just kept squeezing them together with tweezers until they set up.We'll see how long they hold.

Camping is not really the right term for what we do ::)Hot and cold running water,A/C,furnace,cable TV,internet,landline,it is far from what you would call a "Wilderness Experence"  But there's a nice lake to swim and fish in,so it works out good. Jeff T.

Dicky,Really,you love Trumpeter? I don't believe I've heard that before    I like doing the smaller stuff.It has a lot of advantages.I can build 2-3 1/72nd for the cost of a 1/35th kit.This is My first Trumpy kit, in any scale. So far I will say the fit is good,and most of the details are crisp and well defined.The roadwheels where a little weak but not bad.Would I buy another Trumpeter kit....Yes. Jeff T.

A picture is worth a thousand words . . . Jeff, this is the lone survivor displayed at the Kubinka Museum in Russia. Ok, these tires are not the 'Bigfat, Honking, Roadkill’ tires as seen on your Nova build but they are certainly rubber tires none the less. Note that the owners have gone and over painted the metal surface edges on the road and idler wheel rims in black (red arrows). Hope this helps you?

Yup, that’s my definition of camping right there! Any other way just boarder lines camping ala homeless style (of course without asking for other people’s money or food).
