Because of Rob's evil influence, my next project will have neither road wheels or tracks but does have some big guns and armor! Dragon's 1/350 German Z-38 Destroyer (ships weren't named but the Allies referred to them as the 'Narvik-class' of ships) plus some Eduard details to go with the kit supplied stuff.

I'll gladly take the blame Bill and I can't wait to see this one come together. Good to build out of our comfort zone now and then eh.

That's true Rob! It's been 8 years since I built anything other than Armor.

BJ, Andy claims that my builds are responsible for his stash growth so you've been warned! Had to fight the urge to start digging into this one yesterday...motivation for this build is pretty high, let's hope it lasts! Leon, Bruce, glad to have you along! Gary, at least it's still German! Didn't totally go off the reservation with this one. Andy, it's evil but in a good way...you'll soon see the benefits...the dark side has cookies!

Anthony, no I haven't but that's because it's been about 20 years since I last built one! This is truly new territory for me in terms of my model-building history. T, all the reviews say good things about the kits so I hope that holds true. The Eduard set is basically the railings and a few other small additional details like some of the access ladders. That's because the kit already comes with a good bit of PE and is highly detailed to begin with at over 600 parts. I have a feeling I will be using my Optivisor A LOT on this one.

I can assure you that you will be using the specs my friend!! LOL!! Ships are great!! I like tossing one or five into the mix from time to time!! The DML Smart Kits and Premiums are superb as they won't set someone back too much and you get a "boatload" of goodies with them!!This will be most interesting to watch you have at her!! I think I will be needing a bunch of popcorn for this one!!

Bill I checked some reviews on this and the other Z boats and they were all pretty good. the additional PE in the kit is a real plus and would make get the kit and save some $$ getting aftermarket stuff. Of course pe rails are a must so money well spent.
I have the popcorn ready and the beer chillin....just waiting for the show to start. Figured a wingie would keep me busy until then.

Having looked over the Eduard set yesterday and today, it's a nice complement to what Dragon provides in the box. There's no overlap and of course the Eduard kit includes the railings, which is why I got it. The DML PE fret has some very tiny parts...like the hand wheels for the Flakvierling...those are small enough in 1/35, now imagine them at 10% that size!

Ak-interactive has got that weathering set for German ships I'm already at my spending limit for the only ship I plan to build Anthony! Maybe if I was planning to do more, I'd see about picking that up, thanks for the tip though.

Can't blame me for that...lol....way to go bro, some very cool wood decking.

As tempting as that is there T, I don't think it's really necessary...Dragon provides a molded in wood pattern for the upper part of the bridge deck and adding that same effect to that lower bridge deck would just be a matter of scribing some lines and careful painting. The deck areas in question, after all the stuff is added, is really quite tiny, that's why they give you 2x in the set to make it worth the price. Even at $10 that's a little pricey considering I'm building just one and besides they are sold out... Just like adding zim, that added extra thickness of the wood applique would play havoc with parts fit based on previous Dragon experience...they don't build in tolerances for that sort of thing as a rule.

WOW! I have to say this... I admire Bill's strong resistance to buy aftermarkets. I am SO WEAK! I buy anything that can go on my builds. LOL

LOL No worries there Andy...the Eduard set by itself was nearly the same cost as the kit at $30! It always amazes me what the AM guys are able to come up with, not just in the armor world but also the aircraft arena! MF, size is all relative I suppose, even this 'little' destroyer has a hull that's 14" long!

Thanks Sir Nemo! We'll see how long this project takes, I had to dust off the Optivisor and see how my eyes would stand working with it as I normally just use a lighted magnifier on a swing arm when working on armor. Andy, you'll have to be more persuasive...use the word Trumpeter a lot...
