Hi all For those that didnt see the start, i was asked to make a George and the Dragon scene, seems like eons ago now, anyway the dragon was then finished, made from Daz and milliput, and then there was a problem with the buyer, during which time my wife nicked the dragon. Anyway to cut a long story short, commision back on, SAS raid on the mantle piece to recover the dragon and we are up and running. So this is the dragon, George will be on a rearing horse with his lance sticking in the dragons side. Ill be using a miniart horse and the Burgundian knight for the conversion. Ill be starting with the horse and see where we go from there. i might even sculpt a skeleton with some rusty armour on, i fancy having a go at this rustin lark. More to follow shortly Paul

Frank ill try to get some more pics of the head for you. This is the horse as it comes from the box. So the first thing is to determine the position of the legs. The back legs have to be moved back and the hoofs straightened and the front legs have to be moved forward. The head will have to be turned to the left and the neck extended and twisted to the left aswell I always do a leg at a time and let it go off, that way i can arrange the other legs to suit. So starting with the rear left leg, i cut it away just before the rump, then cut a further angle on the back of the rump and repositioned the leg. i have done similar with the ankle and straightened the joint out a bit So ill leave this to go solid then do the right leg. Hopefully the complete figure will have 3 supporting points, the 2 rear legs and the lance through the dragon fixed to the knight all for now Paul

Hi all Ok my mate is now on a normal ward and is recovering, so it was obviously take the piss time, well he is an ex scots guardsman In between time ive managed to get the head done, i had to make 4 cuts to the neck and head and plenty of filler to get a natural looking curve Ive also filed away some of the halter, toooo many straps on a french harness. The next decision is whether to put a caparison on the horse, or armour or a bit of both, i had thought about about a shafron, which is a plate to protect the horses head and Crinet for the neck, Then just a draped cloth over the back with the st george cross on it ? Anyway theres still a bit more to do to the horse before that gets started all for now Paul

cheers Frank the George figure itself will be in full armour, so that will be fairly fantasy anyway as St George lived from 275 to 303 ad and full plate armour wasnt invented then, but i think your right as regards the horse, a mixture of armour and caparison would look good. heres some pics of the dragons head that you asked for all for now Paul

Hi All Boo if your contemplating sculpting a dragon i can rcommend a book called Dragon Art by graemme Aymer, some excellent pictures in it, give it a go its good fun to ley your imagination run riot Frank cheers bud I have pinned the horses rear legs right up to the elbow joint and just made a rough base for it to sit on for now. Once the whole thing had a good sand i started with the armour. For the head ive made a shafron, the chest has a Peytral and at a later stage ill make some neck guards, Crinet. ive also done the saddle blanket. loads more work to do when these have gone off All for now Paul

Hi Mate
Yeah the dragon had a wire frame then tin foil wrapped around it and then putty on top. For this dragon i used Daz clay, mainly because it was cheap, its not bad but it is a bit chalky when it goes off and needs seeling with a laquer. ill be keen to see how yours turns out so dont forget to blog it here

Hi All Just a couple more pics, first of sharon....... sorry the shafron ive engraved an edging, erm around the edge .....and also engraved a sunburst around the rossette, and added some rivets, so thats the shafron finished apart from painting. With the paypal..........again apologies Peytral ive also added an edging and some rivets where the plates would be joined and later on where the straps will go. next step is the saddle and then the caparison and harness for the rear end All for now Paul

Hi Al cheers Robbo Instead of making a full caparison for the horse i decided to do a drape, no doubt jackwagon will make a comment about curtains , anyway as it says its just a cloth draped over the rear of the horse, normally with the heraldry on. so ive added the cross which will be sanded a bit thinner when its gone off, i also engraved tassles around the edge all for now Paul
