I couldn't leave it alone . I started removing some of the streaks . Thing looked bad for a while .Thought I was going to have to redo it or somethin . But after sticking with it I felt ok and liked the look . So added a little more Burnt Ochre and this is the result . Next is the exhaust manifolds . I smell engine oil .

Hey guy-z thanks to all of you !I'm finished with the engine and hope I'm not boring all of you with the update on it .I enjoyed doing the detail on the engine and turned it into a project of its own it looks like , but at least it's finished ! Now I will move on to getting the chassis finished . Wouts , certainly my pleasure my friend . Pete , I'd suppose these engines got a workout moving these over weight vehicles around the country side . Probably not the best maintenance and the engines were under powered gas guzzlers also . Bill , sounds like you know the experience of hanging over the fender with a wrench in your hand ? Paul , really glad you got hear . Lui , flavorful comment there my friend . Finished engine . Actually its the exhaust manifolds and some fluids that I finished since the last pic . I used Mig pigments (Africa soil , old rust)plus some yellow chalk dust on the manifolds and a few dabs of Future for the fluid .

Hey Guy-z ! I painted the wheels and tires ( plus fingers ) . Don't like wearin those latex gloves and my work gloves are to bulky . I sprayed the wheel with Tamiya XF 24 and then sprayed a coat of XF 22 in the center of the wheel for contrast . Gotta do something to liven up this all gray vehicle . I used this plastic cap as a mask for the wheel and then sprayed the tires XF 1 .

Carl, Very nice progress on those manifolds and nice trick with the wheel mask. Your fingers look a lot like mine do after a painting session! As for spending time with a wrench in my hand, one thing my dad made sure I learned how to do at a young age was how to change my own oil and spark plugs! Of course, that's when you still had enough space under the hood to actually get to them and work on them yourself!

Hey guy-z , thank you all for following along on this here thread and for the comments ! Mac, sounds like you have been there and that with the painted fingers . Lui , yup , I see what you mean bout the rubbery lookin fingers .......whoa ! They don't stretch out like rubber though ! Keith , I'm thinkin bout entering my painted fingers in a new model category .....digital painting ? Leon , thought my fingers came out the correct shade .....a little touch up might be needed though . Deano , Just gotta find the little plastic keys and its off ! Bill , I thought you had a good idea of where a wrench could be put to use . I had to learn that stuff on my own . Empty wallet will pay for the school of hard knocks . Pete , you old China ! Nems , geeze my friend we got to serve in diff Navy's at diff times on diff levels of the ocean together didn't we ! You engineer on those big marine diesels don't yu ? Good haven another sea going mate about on these forums . Did I ever show what my ole ship looked like ? USS Oklahoma CLG-5 . On here for 3 1/2 yrs . In Yokosuka , Japan .

Finished the rest of the wheels and sprayed a coat of Future on them in preparation for the oil wash . Finally the engine is mounted in the chassis ! I previously did a wash of burnt umber on the frame and used Mig pigments Old Rust and Smoke on the exhaust system . Here's the firewall with its plumbing and wiring . Question .........the arrow points to what I think is the fuel filter . this vehicle used Gasoline , not diesel . So I'm thinking the bowl (silver part) might of been clear glass and the color might of been a clear yellow / amber from the gas and residue inside . Sound right ?

Fabulous job, Carl. I agree, it could be glass, but I don't have reference pics, as it's german.
