So this project is my current focus. It's born of the death of 1/35th scale. This has been built with plastic, and metal, some resin,(much more resin to come) and wood. I chose 1/25th because that would mean EVERYTHING would have to be scratch built....and brother I do mean EVERYTHING. When she's done there will be 5 figures, (see my next post for some WIP panzergrenadiers).
For a while now I have been working on the engine compartment......there is some of the electric drive visible through the grill vents......and I bet if your like me,........you been dealing with those IMPS "pinheads" and their flashlights and dental mirrors telling you..."you know that's the wrong..............." or worse "there's no....." Any how, PLEASE let me know what you think

I have been working on what will be visible to the "rivet counters" as looking through the main engine vents.
I am attaching pictures of the rear portion. Please note the large box is part of the model. It's where my Panzergrenadiers will be fighting from or leaping off of.......you'll see
The box has become my "signature item" it started with building vehicles from the 24th Panzer Division....... This one will be added based "loosely" on the idea that Ferdinand crews at Kursk, added wooded planks to the rear for troops to ride into battle on. Yes I know there is NO ARCHIVAL PHOTOS, (at least none I have found in 45 years), however like I said it's my thing..........................

Thank you for all the kind words...........
This beast is really a hoot. And even though I see all the flaws I'm proud of it. Now PLEASE keep in mind my overall process is keeping with the old Shep Paine concepts. By that I mean some of the interior details are shapes that can be partially viewed and thus are just shapes for the viewer to interpret.....

Absolutely nothing wrong with viewer interpreted shapes PJ - many of my external parts are like that..... The ones ON MY MODELS before anyone says anything...... lol Yer Ferdi looks outstanding from where I'm sat..... Good thing you added that disclaimer Dicky, can't ever be too careful with all the Jeff's running around these parts just ready to pounce!

So, I have been working on the Gun Breach, which will "at best" only partially visible through a hatch. HOWEVER there still must be something more than a tube. Also the front rain gutters which for the Ferdinand , were "crew added". As well as the drivers and radio operators visors. Plus the long overdue rear quarter panels. The QP's have that weird multi angle thing going on with them......
Some of the pictures are blurry SORRY

So far EVERYTHING is scratch built. Now as we all know "round shapes" are a little tricky, so I have taken liberty's with things that are round....having said that I have not kit bashed or used any single piece from a "production kit" for it's intended use. Example would be the air filter on top of the fighting compartment, it comes from the Tamiya 1/25th scale Tiger I, it was some "doo-hickey" off the exhaust system. it is boxed inside of a piece of plasti-struct square tubing. Additionally the drive wheels are "HEAVILY" modified from the Tiger I. Basically I cut the teeth wheels out and remounted them in plasti-struct and other round bits and pieces to form the drive wheels. Lots of sanding and lots of trial and error. The limited engine cooling system is assorted parts from Grandt line and plasti-struct. Since this portion won't be full viewed, I decided it didn't need to be anything more than "accurate shapes" thus keeping the mythical "rivet counters" very happy....LOL
lastly the vents over the engine cooling area are actually Grandt line "O" scale window frames. I searched hi and low for the right dimensions till I found ones that I could use. Then I filled them with plastic strips cut on my "chopper" added some brass mesh, and two hours later had a VERY ACCURATE set of cooling vents. Oh then I added some nut heads and handles fashioned from Evergreen square tubing coupled with round strips..........
So far that's how it's going together, kinda old school, that's why I love 1/25th
Thanks for the kind words

Tojo72,
I was of that same ilk many years ago...............I started with 1/35th scale do-dads....and made a truck load of errors along the way......However, with the advent of all the aftermarket products, I decided FOR ME, I was gonna work in a scale that required scratch building..............maybe one day you'll venture out......no doubt the forum members will be a GREAT safety net if you do
