So I've been "toying" with the Ferdinand's base. It's gonna be representing the steppe near Ponyri during Zitadelle.....well that's the hope....Remember I haven't completed a base since before Clinton was president.........

Well here is as they say the "latest and greatest on der Ferdinand.
Basically, I nave begun what I am calling Grass Tuft Central...... The tufts are and old rope from a block of provolone cheese. I took the rope and dried it for YEARS, and I do mean YEARS. Then , unwrapped it or untangled it. Once it was in strings so to speak, it was cut into various lengths, tied at the base and fixed with Zap. Some had dried "stuff" added. This stuff I got at my local Arts and Crafts store.....Just stuff I thought looked like it could belong on the Russian Steppe.
After processing HUNDREDS of the lil buggers, I am now painting. This batch has a deep dark green sprayed into the root base. Then a lighter green over-sprayed, followed by a homemade orange-ish yellow. The next series will be more light green and tan-ish. Those will be followed by a deep green batch, which will be a small number for highlighting or accenting the field of weeds/grass. The very last batch will be more bush with flowers. These will be more of that orange yellow highlighting the ( pink, purple or violet), flowers.
Here is the first run

Last ones.......... These obviously are just "randomly placed.... the base has ZERO paint or details... Just a quick tease..
Bye the Bye.... there will be "flattened" tufts in the tread tracks.

Just a very quick post today....really....
I've been playing with an undergrowth concept...I am sure it's been done before but what the heck I'll go ahead and take full credit for it....LOL The concept is really quite simple...You take pencil shavings mixed with dried parsley flakes and white glue. Add warm water and basically make a undergrowth paste you can apply throughout the base, well as needed.
Here is the first test batch

To say it turned out great would be an understatement. As a figure guy I'm interested in where the figures came from?

Thank you for the very kind words.... All of my figures or conversions from Tamiya 1/25th, Airfix, Italeri or even Model Cellar.... I am a big believer in detail

Well back on track today.... I had a "airbrush" issue....... I guess that's what happens when you NEVER deep clean your 20 year old airbrush....who woulda thunk...
Here are a couple of shots of the undergrowth and the grass.......

So I have been playing with the "undergrowth" some more and here are the updates. As an adjunct to this all the grass tufts are complete. And now i'm really focusing in on the actual ground work painting /weathering. Plus completing one to three more figures....will see though

I'd like to say 'looking good' - but without the grass tufts it reminds me of an old cowpat Please put the tufts back in before I need therapy
