so, i was bouncing around ideas about the canopy. was thinking canvas or something. was talking to TRM and he had this neat idea where i guess they used to use old matress frames on tanks (for some reason) and it would make a nice canopy. i got some pictures and decided to try it out. I think it came out pretty swell. Its a keeper in my eyes, and i havent seen anyone do that yet for a canopy. its going to be a farm vehicle so they tend to recycle things. so it fits my theme.

Springs for the frame. Made from solder. I didnt want them to deform so i dipped each one in thin CA to set the coil. worked great.


Some general pics of it. Added bolt heads, an arch above the seat for sitting, and a bolt on each side to hang stuff off of. Plan to hang the rope on one side, havent decided on the other side yet.






Here it is just sitting there to kind of give you an idea..




and finally did my first painting. i wanted to practice rust so its a little overkill because its only going to show through the chipping coat but practice is practice. pretty happy with it. its my first time painting any rust. theres no pigment texture or weathering yet. its just a base coat.

You just keep it going great.  Very impressed with your fittings on the injector pump outlets, very hard to do at that size.  I'm with Luigi on the wire size for the injector lines, can see that it is much smaller than the small sized Radio Shack solder that the engine is setting on.

yeah it was actually the wire that came with the engine. i dunno if its something new they started but mine came with all the wire needed but the instructions said i needed wire. but ive gone on ebay and bought quite a few wires for this purpose cause i cant find anything smaller than .3 mm solder (the one that the engine is on)

so the canopy, engine, front grille, and exhaust stacks are all going to be just rust. Ive been experimenting and ive finally got a process that im comfortable with, and is repeatable. Its my first time doing rust so if its off, or looks bad im open to suggestions. It will get better with practice. The pics are a little washed out/more vibrant than it looks in person. my model cave has low light. but you get the idea.

was working with pigments on engine.. and got some on my hands, of course, its messy. so i washed my hands and looked up in the bathroom mirror and it WAS EVERYWHERE on my face. looked like a kids first bday cake where you let them eat it with their hands. i dont even remember going near my face. glad i looked.

made an attempt at rusting the engine. pretty happy with it.has some decent texture, variation on colors. the pics come out way more vibrant than real life so try to ignore the hot spots. i desaturated them a bit so theyre not too bad but still you can see the diff rust color spots way more than in person, they blend better in person. oh well. still need to hilight some areas with graphite
