What a stunning piece of rusty crap Are you going to sling some paint on it to wear afterwards or is it going to stay a total rust block?

What a stunning piece of rusty crap Are you going to sling some paint on it to wear afterwards or is it going to stay a total rust block? i dont know about stunning, but thank you all the same.. the engine, canopy, exhaust and front grill will remain rusty crap to kind of break up things. the body, frame, and fuel trailer will have color. the tractor is going to be two types of blue (like it was painted twice over time) then heavily chipped to show rust. the trailer is going to be russian green (same plan with rust base). i have this 4bo vallejo set i want to try. I originally was going to paint the engine and everything and chip it but i personally feel having some solid rust pieces will break up it being all one color, even though its chipped and multiple colors. i mean, if im wrong, and it needs color, i can always add it on top and chip it later. but thats the plan for now.

Excellent stuff Canopy and engine looking the biz What rust paint/oil/pigments did you use to achieve that look on the engine ? •Primer •Added texture with thinned tamiya putty. •Airbrushed Tamiya Red Brown base •Decanted aquanet hairspray for volume and bounce and brushed it onto the spots i wanted build up •Added Medium Rust •washed with black oil paint wash and whre i built up pigment it would cause the black wash to spread and stain, was a nice effect •Added some Light Rust in spots to add some color variation Not sure what will happen next. im fairly happy with it (this is my first time doing rust) but once i install it ill see if it needs anything.

Cheers Tony
The texture and pigments really do leave some impressive effects don't they
I have found trouble with rusting stuff up is knowing when to leave it alone
For a first attempt you nailed it big time

small update.. added some graphite to the engine. it looks brighter in the pics cause the light is catching it cause i wanted to show it. but im really happy with it. it adds a nice touch. Before: After: Found this little gem at my hobby shop in a bin. its period correct and will add a nice touch all rusted up. Going to add wires and hoses once i get some reference pics. was a quick 20 minute build. Its by Mirror Models. you get 2 for 13.00

Small update: decided to try the paint and chipping and such on the bench.keep in mind its my first time chipping so. its going to be long abandoned. im pretty happy with it. in the final pics keep in mind that its more vibrant in the pics than in person. hope you enjoy. First round, dark blue chipped over rust second round, body blue color after sealing first chipping. learned some things. going to leave more dark blue cause it didnt really show as much as i wanted. will need to leave bigger patches. no biggie though. its just a bench. added my scratch seat covers and decided to rip em and add some filling added oil wash, and 2 colors of dirt pigment. these are the ones where its more pronounced in teh pics. its more subtle in person.
