Hello Folks, I am a bit off from ripping into this one but thought I would start up the thread to get the ball rolling. As the title suggests, this will be Gallery Models' 1/350 Scale USS Intrepid CVS-11. The kit box shows only this as 'CV' but her makeup and air wing puts the time frame in the mid 60's I believe after the SCB-125 refitting. I have not decided on what will be done yet really as there are some options here to play around with! In any case, it should prove interesting I think. All about having some fun, right? If you would like to check out what comes in the kit, Jim Starkweather has put together a nice review of this one on Model Shipwrights: modelshipwrights.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=10570 Please take the time to stop by and read the review! Without wasting anymore time, here is what I am looking at getting myself into... The obligatory box art One 'big' hurdle with this build will be taking pictures. The kit does not actually fit in the photo booth too well....yet! Some quick interesting notes on this kit are that she comes in just over 32 inches in length, there is 6 sheets of photo etch included with the kit and the sprue count is 33; however, 22 of the sprue are aircraft alone. The deck of this ship has been nicely molded from what I am seeing at first glance. The kit does come with a detailed hanger deck, but unfortunately that is the only detailing in the hanger bay included. Depending on how this gets laid out will depend on how much scratch building get done in the hanger I suppose!! One other small note is the lacking of any hull plating details...this is easily dealt with when the time comes though. I still have something on the bench to take care of, one being my HMS Roberts which still has a little rigging to go. I think once I get the Roberts shipped off I will have an open slot in the graves for this one. As always, thanks to taking the time to stop by and have a look-see!!

Tony - Thanks! I would assume long term at the moment. All depends on how quickly I finish some "other" things...LOL!! Carl - There is a fair amount of detail with this. I do wish the hull plating was there but as I mentioned above more or less, there are many ways to skin a cat!!

Whoah...she's a big one! Gonna be a while on this one, sir.
What sort of an airwing does the kit come with?

Dupes,
"The decals for the A-4B/C Skyhawks are generic and you can see that VA-15, VA-34, VA-66, VA-95 all had some distinctive colors (depending on which squadron(s) you're depicting) that will have to be replicated by hand and MODEX numbers are not provided
The decals for the VAW-121 (Det.11) E-1B Tracers are also generic and no MODEX numbers are provided
The decals for the A-1H/J Skyraider depict VA-176 with the distinctive tail art and MODEX numbers
The instructions indicate that the VA-176 Skyraiders are EA-1F and while it would be outstanding to have the EA-1Fs from VAQ-33 which were deployed on these cruises, the kit parts are single-seat A-1H/J aircraft and not the four-place A-1E/F.
The decals for the F-8C Crusaders depict VF-111 with their distinctive tail art, but no MODEX numbers
The decals for the HC-2 UH-2 are also generic but in this case, they're correct though no MODEX numbers"
I had to borrow this form Scalemates as you know me with those things with wings!! LOL!!

No worries about this one fitting into the 'long term' slot, should be fun to see it all come together slowly but surely! Definitely will be a nice size when all built up.

WoW!!! Look at that kit!
Cannot wait to see it get the "T" treatment. So, what's it going to be? A cut-away with a full, scratchbuilt interior??
