Bah, you'd mop the floor with me in the 1/32 department Jimmy...no worries there! Bill - I passed that tip on to someone at the show and I think he's going to do just that! I'm still thinking of building a shed with mine. Few more shows and I should have enough "lumber". Wingy - I believe it's "shiitake". Hahahaha. Boyd - always does!

Must be really nice to be so showered in accolades that you can resort to using them as bases and firewood

Hahaha...that's why I can't make myself tear them up for bases! Emergency firewood - if I needed it that bad, sure.

Oh, nice job capturing the Hal Marshman Award. Hal is a good friend of mine and one of the most knowledgeable people regarding WWII subjects, especially German aircraft, uniforms, and especially P47's. Because of this I made an extra effort in the inaugural edition of this award and ended up winning. To this day it is one of my most cherished wins, even compared to my Nats awards.

Sorry for the delay, didn't see this post for whatever reason. Sadly, Hal didn't make it to Downeastcon this year...not sure why (hope his health is ok). I certainly agree about his P-47 knowledge - he called me out on a build that I did a few years back where I had wrecked some of the decals I was using and had to substitute some other similar (but not identical!) ones. He was riiiiiight on top of that bird for sure!

Despite doing a TON of building (other than the past couple of days), I haven't been doing much - or anything - in the finishing department. As usual, I'll hit the end stage with a bunch of stuff all at once and have a "completion avalanche"! So this one has the distinction of being the worst kit I've ever built. It's crap. Really. Look at the size of the wing root mismatch - that's something like two scale feet. There was no way to fix it. Period. The underside is even worse. But I paid three dollars for this damn thing, so I was going to build it! Really, I just kept going because I wanted to try out some of the paint mixes that Trumpeter supplied using Tamiya colors. I'm going to call on all of my Flanker-experten friends to decide how accurate they are. I like them, but are they "right"? Lot of ordinance packed onto one five inch airplane:

How about "nice job not trashing this before you got to the paint stage"? Finished solely for paint mixes and to make sure I can still freehand camo with Tamiya acrylics.

I'll tell ya, you're more dedicated that I'd be. I'd have chucked that thing against the wall as hard as I could. Good idea though - using such a dud for paint mixes. No pressure or worries about what happens if they are not what you hoped.
Personally, I think they look pretty darn spot on, but I'm no expert.

Looks like a good test platform for paints Dupes. I'd say you haven't lost your touch in the painting department.

That's about all it's good for, Bill. After seeing some great 1/144 stuff at recent shows, I was pretty fired up to start a small collection (get it? small?).
This one will not be going into any collection...unless you count my boy's toy pile as a collection!

I admire your determination in getting it that thing to the finish line. You're a better man than I. I agree though. Doesn't seem like you need to worry about the AB skills.

I seriously haven't put anything in here in TWO MONTHS? That's going to change this weekend. Let me see about getting four or five builds wrapped up and on the shelf.
