I've already posted most of these in the earlier threads. But will consolidate the whole build here. These are the first ships we see in the new movie as well as the first place we see our main character, FN-2187 (Finn). There's a surprising quantity of quite good detail available about these ships online. It would seem that the studio released detailed information for various promotional items, like Lego's, online artists, toymakers as well as an intriguing 1/6 display in Hong Kong. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJHHiz8vq_sAnd to be clear: This:Is really just one of these:
I've finished a display stand for the model. The final design will be about 18" (45cm) long. Plastic sheet and tools are ready. We just need the calendar to tick over to to February.

If you're participating in this G.B. With an Imperial or First Order vehicle, then your color pallet is pretty straightforward. I also got some small work done on the stormtrooper figure. But it's not enough to bother blogging. Thanks for stopping by. John

As the final day of waiting ticked down, I built a little work droid to go in the scene. "I don't seem to recall ever owning a droid." I'll call it, "BB-2" AND HERE WE GO!!!! The plastic sheet waits. The paint colors are selected. The glue bottles have been refilled. Let us cut some styrene!!!!! Having seen how our own Ray Dunakin produces buildings with an exterior shell into which an interior unit is slid, I've decided to try the same idea. There will be an "inside" unit and an "outside" shell to contain that unit. teeny-tinny little saw I found at Harbor Freight Tools. The blade kerf is 2mm. Frame members will define the shape of the outer shell. The hole in their centers leaves room for the interior unit. More pictures as the build moves forward. Thanks for stopping by. And good luck with your own Star Wars project! (If you haven't got one, now is a good time to consider it.)

Thanks for following along. I saw this on a Facebook forum. No idea who posted it, but they deserve my thanks. It's proving dead useful in scribing and snapping styrene sheet.
Graph paper is also dead useful in keeping things lined up until the glue sets. There are precious few interior pictures with good detail yet available. But I did uncover these: Assembly goes surprising fast when you've got acres of plastic and bins full of old tank parts. (It also helps to have the day off and considerable snowfall outside the workbench window.)
Test fit of the interior box and outer frame.
More tomorrow if things work out.

WOW..... That is some great progress John! Like the detail on the interior so far as I'm sure there's more to come.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!
When detailing the interior, I think you could use the good old gizmology and improving it with interior of actual troop transporters. Have seen pics of a Verlinden build of a C-130 Hercules, where he scratched the interior. This might be similar to a fictional troop transporter.

Man, you aren't messing around! Love it! That rotary trimmer - is that intended for paper, but works great with styrene?

I can't wait to see this thing. I like the rotary trimmer Idea.. Will have to try that, I still use a Big ass Chopper/shear that I know will take a finger one day.

I still use a Big a$$ Chopper/shear...... I started out with the traditional paper cutter but found that it would work fine for thin stock, but would produce a chamfered edge on 1mm or thicker. The rotary cutter allows me to snap the heavier stock at a nice 90 degree angle. Dupes: Yes. It's meant to be used to crop down photographs for mounting into frames. But the razor sharp cutting disk leaves a nice line in the top of sheet stock, which is then easy to break/snap. Lost a few hours of build time today due to needing to produce my own Hoth Base in the driveway. Thanks Chris! Yes the interior will be lighted. Have you ever noticed how dark all the interiors on the Imperial stuff always was? If they ever had a power outage, the Death Star would have been like the inside of a cave. They arrived yesterday, just before the snow! Additional framing items added. I'm beginning to see that the "shoebox" will actually go pretty fast. The time consuming part will be in building all the exterior detail, like 4 engines, pilot's compartment and doodads and wingdings which need to attach to the drive section. It's been neat to see how much interest there's been in the G.B.

Roof and floor and lights. The LEDs are mounted to a self-adhesive backing, which makes them easy to place.
Roof panel. Overhead white lights to be added.
Floor detail. Since all the lighting is at the top, I'm not sure how much of this will be seen in a dark grey interior.
Stay tuned.
