6-26-13 updateAfter giving the Panther a new coat of rust over what I had on there before ( stripped the paint), I have started a bit of the rusting. Added various shades of LC rust with the sponge, a heavy rust wash and over this some various MIG prod. rust toned pigments. I also gave the turret a coat of HS. I have to let all this dry before I can move it to take some pics, but for now here are two of the nearly dry turret. Stayed tuned...

LOL thanks bro. I didn't like the way the pigments were so bright and a bit off, so I went over it with some AK pigments. Reworking the hull now. Maybe get the first layer of paint on her this week/weekend.

Leon,Gary,Bill and BJ Thanks fellas, just having a bit o fun with rust. I had gotten bored of the rust thing after doing it for over ten years, now I need to slowly get back into it. The hull looks much better than the turret I think. I will get some pics up today.

Now thats a RUSTY! lol Looks awesome Rob! Got to get me a nice rusty paint set. You recommend LC or AK? Cheers, Gary Gary, this is a tough question and I would really have to say both are good. Each set has it's pros and cons. It depends on how you plan to use this too. The AK set has very accurate colors but is basically only good for AB. The LC set also has spot on colors, can be brush or thinned for the AB, big plus with this set. I have great success thinning this paint to use as a filter. I guess if you had to get just one set it would have to be Lifecolor. The LC colors dry fast and best of all to a flat/matt finish. The AK paints for some reason won't dry this way, usually a satin finish. Could just be me but that's what happens.
So it's all personal preference and what you need them for. The LC set is great for exhausts BTW.

Thanks Dicky. As much as I'd like to move on and do much less of the rusty stuff, I always get drawn back somehow. Next pic should be in the next few days. I have to let the base 'Gelb' cure really good before I can do any weathering. So that means back the the KV fest and THOR.

I think mostly we try something in our models. That`s the fantastic of our hobby, isn`t it? I try nearly in every model some new techniques and tricks. That makes every work unique. When I saw this turret I had to remember a project I plan in the futur. I want to build an old german tank facility with some half finished tanks and turrets and so.

This is what I appreciate the most of MSCF, nowhere else are modellers experimenting so much and effective as here, finding new techniques and immediately sharing them with their buddies ! Rob I'm waiting for the next update !

Matt, Every model for me is a test bed for weathering or other techniques, keeps me from getting bored..lol
G, have to agree mate, the members here are great for experimenting and sharing with others, that's what the hobby should be all about. Next update on the Panther will be a while, BUT, I am using the KVI museum piece for the same experiment and that will come first. Just got the primer coat on and rust brown comes next.

Wow, that rust is spectacular. It has a crusty appearance that make the surface so realistic...
I too love the LC set, although I haven't tried AK's one. It's so easy to use and the shades of rust are perfectly suited.

Thanks Luigi. The rust tech for that is what Guy has been using on his last two models, but I added a bit mare than normal on this and soon to be the KVI museum piece.

Well kind of 5 models in 2 1/2 weeks. I managed to get the base paint on five models, including the building of three of them. Some of the models received up to three coats of primer and at least two base coats. The models are ready for markings and weathering at this point, but due to the humidity the weathering products take too long to dry so it's slow going. Here are some pics of the five models in various stages of painting.

Looks like you've been making the most out of your available painting windows Rob! Hope the weather cooperates some more so these babies can keep on rolling down the assembly line.

jackwagon and Bill, thanks fellas. Dicky you crack me up mate.
Bill I try when I can brother. Can't do any AB work the past two days, too much spatter. Been applying rust pigs to the museum KVI instead. Have to wait to try and get HS and base green on her.
