That's a nice looking Smallie Jeremy. The winter down here has been weird too. Usually this area gets a week of temps in the 40's. That's winter. But this year the temps stuck in the 50's for over a month. Usually by now we're well into the 80's but mornings are still 60's She was a nice little "chunk"! 80's sounds pretty gross...disgusting even!!! I don't even like that in the dead of summer!

We expect a high of 89* today! Texas summers have to be experienced to believe them; they do cull the newcomers who didn't realize they were moving to the outskirts of Hell. 😆

"In July, Phoenix also set a record with a 31-day streak of highs at or above 110 F (43.3 C)." - but it's a dry heat out here 😂

In the middle of summer it dips down to a chilly 90 at night Winter gets cold, with lows in the 30s and an occasional freeze. This is my second year hear and I'd say right now is a maybe the nicest time of year with highs in the 70s-80s, lows in the 40s-50s. Last summer was exceptional - so hot cactus were dying! Several Saguaros toppled over around my neck of the woods.

Yesterday it actually switched over from heat to air since it was 70 in the car!

We're getting back to "normal" as we speak. It was almost 60F this a.m. Sittin at 45F right now, on the way down to 32F.

You must be north Texas. Here in Houston and it is hell (and not just the temps). We don't have a "spring", it's called pre-summer. With the humidity, the temps are the absolute worse.

If you draw a triangle between DFW-Houston-SA/Austin, Cameron is pretty close to the center of that triangle. I've heard it said that there actually are four seasons in Texas; Almost Summer, Summer, Still Summer and Deer Season.
I wouldn't live in Houston if I owned it. As General Philip Sheridan said: “If I owned Texas and Hell, I would rent out Texas and live in Hell.” I might not go that far-somewhere in the mountains would be nice...😄

What is this "dry heat' I keep hearing of? 😁 How were the night-time temps, John? Does it cool down there in the desert? Yeah, what's this dry heat thing? I was in Phoenix when it was 113, but I was not "dry". I felt like a big, soggy crinkle-cut French fry that was left in a handbag for several days. Truly brutal summer conditions can be found in Florida. I was at the Mouse House for the IPMS Nats, and THAT was the most horrifying condition I have ever experienced. It was like 100-100; 100 degrees and 100% humidity. My skin burned under the sun, the covered walkway felt like a toaster oven, and it was 90+ degrees at 5:00 am. When I went home, I promised myself that I would never complain about another hot & humid day in Hawaii. But I did enjoy the thunderstorms, which were regularly scheduled daily at 4:00 pm, according to the locals I chatted with. Summer time in southern Japan (Yamaguchi) now takes second place. But unlike Disney World, there were a LOT of bugs. Big bugs, small bugs, bugs that fly and bite. They mostly came out at night. Mostly. There was this metallic blue-green bug waiting for me in the morning that looked like a mosquito, but it was like 2 inches long! BTW, here in Hawaii, a "cold" winter day is 70 degrees. Yeah, we are sissies.

Yeah, we are sissies. You live in a place with 8+ inch centipedes and 2+ inch cockroaches!!! We had a game (back in high school). Our hang-out was the bowling alley or Rec center on Schofield Bks. At night, the putt-putt course at the Rec would have 100's of cockroaches, all over the place. The game ("pop-a-roach")was a race to the opposite side...but each step or jump had to pop a roach. You'd get an automatic win, if you popped a centipede...and didn't end up on your back, as if the pede was a banana peel! I was always amazed, that in Hawaii...a 10 minute drive(that seemed to always take at least 45 mins!) could put you in a completely different feeling climate!

When I was a kid, we would go out at night and play whack-a-mole with them at my friend’s house. Kinda like your hopscotch game, except with brooms. Roach hockey.

GB that's a fine battery of FAL's, which I've always considered the best looking battle rifle ever made. Just something about their lines. I've had a couple of Century R-1's in the past but in cold weather they did not like to cycle. Probably due more to being Century junk made out of stressed to death parts than the design itself. I've wanted to pick up a DS Arms but man, the green they want for one of those...I'll just have to be happy with my Bushy ORC and PTR-91.
Montana weather is a thing of extremes. I've seen -50 to +105 degree differences from winter to summer; one fall not long ago we had an eighty degree change in temperature in twenty four hours. The wind is another thing it'll blow the hair off a dog at times. The worst I recall was constant sixty gusting to 100 mph pretty much no one went outside for a day and a half that time

Summers in inland Florida (Orlando) are brutal. I live on the gulf coast. Even in the dead of summer there is a breeze. Its really not that bad for the most part. Heat wise I think I got hotter in Connecticut in the summer. We have the 2" palmetto bugs here "cockroaches". Gators, bears, coyotes, bobcats, pythons. Regular animal kingdom

Going to be 37.C here on Saturday In Summer and early Autumn we often get +30 temps. In Mildura, other end of the state, 40+ is not uncommon. Mind you, the Winters where I live are pretty mild, usually between 13 and 16. A cheeky sulfur crested cockatoo in the loungeroom. And on the back deck.

It's pretty okay here weatherwise, we never get much more than 80 in your speak (25-30'c) at the height of summer. Most of the time it's 10 - 20'c. What we do get living right on the sea thogh is wind, lots of it 40mph +

I'm in Lakes Entrance Gary. It's a small fishing village in the far East of Victoria towards the NSW border. Lots of critters of various types around here.

Ta! 😁 I was never that far East in Victoria but that sounds like a lovely place. I would love to visit there! My family did do a lot of traveling around, knowing that we probably wouldn't ever be back, I guess. We drove to Adelaide because a mate at work told my Dad we could get an American-style 'burger there! I remember a long drive there in the back seat of our '63 Ford Cortina 2-door. 😊 We also drove up to Canberra on one jaunt; I still remember the War Memorial Museum, with its then recently vandalized yellow-submarine. My family and another American family from Washington State accompanied us to Prince Philip Island (?) to see some bloody penguins, and they and we went to Tasmania for about a week, sailing out of Melbourne on the Princess of Tasmania. What a great time as they also had a son my age! We were two cool 14-year-olds, I'll tell ya!
We also went to many more local towns along the coast West of Geelong up to Princetown or Port Campbell iirc, and up into the interior NW of Geelong too. Dad went on a kangaroo hunt with two Aussie workmates and shot three 'roos. It was way up above the border with NSW, I believe. One was a 6-footer that he skinned and brought home...our dog back home in Texas ate it. 😃
Geez mate, all this is sure making me "homesick" for Oz! 😉 Struth, bring on the fish n' chips!

This just don't look right!!! We have seagulls all over the place...given the 100's of lakes around...but have never seen one at a bird feeder! Other than your winds...80, at the worst, sounds GREAT!!! That is our typical summer (80-90), but we do tickle 100 now and then.

A pale, soggy facsimile, mate! 😟 Nothing I've ordered here, described as fish n' chips, even come remotely close to what I recall in Geelong. I have been told by some Aussies that today's product simply wouldn't be the same as what was sold back then, even in Australia. Pre-battered fish was one example they gave. And yes, you're right, it was Phillip Island. (got me map out now! ) I don't remember being that impressed by all the penguins.

Fermis, you're obviously need to put out the right food - try old stale Pizza and Jacket Potato skins! It's funny, I have a lot of bird feeders in the garden, full of seeds, peanuts etc. but we NEVER see Gulls unless we throw out leftovers - they really are flying garbage trucks!
