Geez Gazza , don't they have fish n' chips over there?? And that would be Phillip Island I'm guessing. A pale, soggy facsimile, mate! 😟 Nothing I've ordered here, described as fish n' chips, even come remotely close to what I recall in Geelong. I have been told by some Aussies that today's product simply wouldn't be the same as what was sold back then, even in Australia. Pre-battered fish was one example they gave. And yes, you're right, it was Phillip Island. (got me map out now! ) I don't remember being that impressed by all the penguins. Depends where you go Gazza. I live in a fishing village, so it's good n fresh here. You can still buy a traditional Aussie hamburger with the lot though! The penguins are ok, but I find em a bit chewy

As for the Aussie 'burger with the lot, uh, no, I tried one a long time ago! 😁 Remember, we lot drove all the way to Adelaide for somethin' different...😆

While watering the lawn the other week, I noticed a fat praying mantis that had taken shelter from the sprinkler. Yeah, I got home late so I was watering the lawn in the late evening. That's why I had to use a flash. I'm sure the mantis was thinking "WTF you want big monkey? Why are you getting so close to me? You wanna fight? Who are you? Cornholio? Do you have no bunghole?"

I love those bugs. That is a fat one. Cornholio needs TP for his bunghole. This would be an appropriate quote ... lol

Mantises are awesome!!! They do make for neat pets, too!
1st one I had, I found on a window screen on a brick job I was working on. She climbed right onto my finger and I placed her on my shoulder....and completely forgot about her until I was on my way home. She had stayed on my shoulder ALL day! Had her for a couple months, in a 5gal. terrarium. Had a few others, since.
For a bug...they do have individual personalities!

Had this big old buzzard land on our back fence yesterday afternoon... I hope it isn't an omen... Can you tell if that's a black vulture or a turkey vulture, Carlos? The turkey buzzard will have white feathers all across the rear edge of the wings, sort of forming a "T" with their body, while a black buzzard will only have white wingtips. The turkey buzzard also has different shaped "nose" openings, giving it a better sense of smell. They can detect scents better and the black buzzards will watch the turkey buzzards for their clues as to where food will be found.
I believe this is a black vulture, judging by its beak. They are sure big ol' birds! 😊

I think it's a black vulture. I see them a lot. Used to have turkey vultures all over in San Diego, but they have those red meaty heads. Coming out here the silhouette of the bird in flight made me think they were turkey vultures but then I noticed the black heads. They are VERY big birds and are beautiful in flight.

We are on the current edge of civilization in this area... behind that ridge in the background is some farm area, then open desert wilderness. Kevdog lives a couple of miles from me to the left of the buzzard

Nice. Great pattern on that fella. They are very pretty snakes, just pack a hemotoxic punch from their fangs. They are nothing compared to the absolute killers in Australia though. Very few people die from their bites, more likely to lose appendages, swelling, severe pain.

I wasn't able to get a pic, but a 2 foot green iguana tried to hitch a ride on the mirror bracket on one of out mail trucks. One of the young guys I work with grabbed him and put him in the bushes

Here are a few things we see in Florida quite frequently. Rat snake, harmless, actually good to have around. Wood Stork, good size, probably 3 feet tall Cuban grasshopper, big, colorful, and invasive. Eats everything And last, a couple of 13 foot dinosaurs I saw while walking at a nature sanctuary.

At a local beer festival I finally got a real close look at MATV yesterday... I think I WANT to buy one someday! I took many pictures and I will share in a new thread when I have the chance.

Well, it wasn't recent, but back 5 or so years ago, maybe more. I was always impressed by the stick jockey's handling of this massive beast of a DC10. I did not take this photo, but I did see this bird heading in and out of this hot spot within a mile of the local city of Colville, WA. Timing on this shot is wild!

That's a great pic! Living in SoCal for 40 years you get to see a LOT of fire bombers. There was fire a bout 30 miles due south of where I was living and the massive 747 flew back and forth right over our house. Quite a site. And we lived about 4 miles from Ramona fire attack base so we would see the S2s and OV-10s quite often.

I used to live in Harbison Canyon from 1997 till 2002, and I remember how fast fires fly thru that area. My old house went up in smoke in 2003. I do remember a fire started in Ramona and almost made it south and west to the coast, woof!
