stikpusher , keavdog , Medicman71 Thank you guys for showing the shots of the show and the awards. Definitely some mind-blowing stuff there at the show. Just incredible work on display. Some of it I've seen in past shows but it was good to see it all again anyways. Real G Thanks for showing that Octupus craft. Very interesting to say the least. Oh and BTW....I don't know who ate the most BBQ but I did eat 1 pound of brisket. Can't get enough of that stuff.....especially when it was THAT good.

Yeah, the Rebel Blockade Runner/Tantive IV that won in Sci Fi has been making the rounds at shows. It was best of show I believe at Orangecon last year, and won Sci Fi here at Modelzona last year as well. One of my favorite ships from the original 1977 movie and I just love seeing it each and every time.

The guy who built the Blockade Runner posted a photo of him flying with the model, on a seat he purchased for it! That is hard-core. I would never dream of paying $700+ for postage to and from a contest!
BUT - that is the thing about contests. Some people will do amazing things.

The only way that I could see transporting that build would be inside a hard musical instrument case with custom foam cut out to pad the build. Ive seen it in person at Modelzona, and frankly it is a fantastic build to see.

Ok, our own Duke Maddog has a similar baby coffin sized box for his 1/72 Dora railroad gun.

I don’t know if I built that Tantive IV if I’d be brave enough to ever move it. 🤣 Just finish it and leave it on the workbench. Lol. But that’s an awesome way to transport it.

And when people ask what’s inside the crate, the builder can stammer “Well, it’s…. It’s a major award!”

Naw, that’s the new patio or garage roof! The coffee table idea came about when Aeroclub released their 1/48 vac-form Avro Vulcan. My friends and I were at a loss to imagine any display case that could house such a beast. But seriously, imagine a coffee table with a dust-proof hinged top, where all your oversized models could be safely displayed. Oh the possibilities for sparkling conversation when the missus’ friends come over!

Aw that’s nothing! Wait till you see the TIE Fighter Suite, or the Rebel Room. Visitors, leave your car at Docking Bay 94 and the valet will move it to the Death Star parking garage.
I like Star Wars. I love Star Wars. But as my sister once told me, “Be sure to tie a board to your butt so you don’t fall in!’

What kit is that, is that the perfect grade from Bandai?
My wife would say "Over my dead body" if I tried to do that.

I think the big one is a prop-sized replica. That's over 5 feet of former kid's college fund sitting under plexiglass.

Yep, and Chang got the same idea from me. He's a member of our IPMS club in Orange County. That Corvette is not the only ship he's built in that scale. I'm glad he placed high again; his work is so well worth it!

I’m not ashamed to admit I just watched a 39 minute video that consisted solely of Andy from Andy’s Hobby Headquarters walking back and forth with a camera, through the model room before it was open. My hats off to any here who took part. Some truly incredible talent on display. I was blown away

keavdog Now that's some cool stuff right there. I only WISH I could do something like that at my house. I've got not one but THREE bulls in a china closet (dogs) here at home and something like that wouldn't stance a snowball's chance in hell of surviving them. kyledehart5 I've gotta tell ya.....it was something to behold alright. As a participant all I can say is that I gave the onlookers some additional things to look at and was happy to do it. I can't help but say that when I did put my aircraft and autos out on the table that it was intimidating at first when looking at all the talent already on the table. After a bit, whether I placed or not became secondary to the point of having a genuinly good time not only with the members here that were there but also in talking to other builders at the tables. Truly good experience and if you've never been to a Nat's show then I strongly encourage you to go to one.

My wife is a Star Wars fan for sure but if we didn't have these bumbling oxen around here she would probably have the same reaction as your wife. lol
