First update on this build...nothing sexy, just the parts cleaned up and a few subassemblies made. Everything is ready for primer.

It's definitely an attention getter. Right?? I saw one of these on the road about a year ago. As soon as I got home I searched it up and placed an order. For a model, not the actual car.

I saw a black 1990 454SS Silverado one day and went home and ordered the kit. I only WISH I could own the real thing. lol

Almost forgot about the photo etch parts to be primed. There are 4 fins that must be glued to 2 side vents. The contact points are tiny to say the least, however, Black CA glue seems to be holding. I found out about this product from a Military subject podcast.

Cool Heard of black CA a while ago. Interested in what you think of it. ATB. Andrew it’s only my second time using it, first time on PE parts. The glue is quite viscous and dries with a rubbery feel to it. I’m thinking it would be useful for parts with any kind of flexion like attaching car bodies to the chassis. Regular CA glues dries rock hard and seems brittle which is probably not the best for PE. On a side note, my bottle sat for a number of weeks since I last used it and the black pigment(?) separated from the glue. It recombined easily with a good shake of the bottle.

For that glue to be holding it must be some good stuff!!

Tiny contact points to be sure. They seem to hold after a little nudge. Another test will be how the grills hold to the body with only those 4 tabs.

Applied the colour coat and decals then cleared with semi gloss. Thanks again to those who responded to my question regarding decals and semi gloss clear. A little good and bad news in this update. Probably my best application of a large decal on a compound surface. It took quite a bit of smoothing to get rid of those pesky wrinkles but Micro Sol eventually did the trick. The bad news is I ended up with a few blemishes because of: either not applying additional coats of the clear soon enough or waiting long enough for the previous coats to more fully dry. I believe the subsequent coats reactivated the first coat(s) which pulled on the decal. No way I was gonna try to remove the decal so I filled in the ‘holes’ with marker and applied a couple more coats of clear. If I look closely I can see in a couple spots where the carbon fibre pattern has gone slightly out of register. Kinda dampened my mojo a bit. I’ll see how much farther I can get before the next boo-boo. There’s always the glass to be done. 8^(

As for the out of register carbon fiber, if you hadn't pointed it out I never would've noticed it. We are our own worst critics as we see each and every little detail that we either missed, blemished in some way or another or got wrong. You've got no kick coming at all with what you're doing here sting. Masterful work buddy.

Every time I start a new kit I go in with the mindset that this will be the perfect build. I try not to make any mistakes and fix them as best I can if they/when arise. It’s when the booboos or accidents accumulate that I have to battle to keep the mojo going. First world problems, I know. ;^)

We're at 42C/107F and 8% humidity here in AZ. I may try airbrushing my test mule just to see... hmmmm That's a lot of tape work - can't wait to see the results.

Those numbers are quite alien to us here in Ontario. Any time time it gets really hot here there is oppressive humidity to go along with it. Half the battle for air conditioners is to pull the moisture out of the air - certainly not something your systems deal with. Does it get cold/much cooler there at night?
