Really nice progress. Everything is looking good in the mockup. Thank you. I like mocking a kit up. It gives a good idea of how it’ll look, and helps to spot any fit issues. This one reminded me to take care of the seams on the cowl.

Man those canons are something else! I’m really glad this kit has those included. They are pretty sizable. I placed the one next to my recently completed Hetzer. It underscored just how small the Hetzer is and how big that pod is.

I'm really looking forward to trying 3D printed decals out on the upcoming Ta-152 that I'll be tackling after seeing these things in action on beautiful works of art like this build here Dave. I mean.....you've just gotta love a Stuka and all but dang......you're taking this one to new levels.

I am waiting for harnesses to arrive from HGW. Actually, I can button up the fuselage, sans the canopy and put the seats in last.

Great work on the pit so far! The 3d printed panels are very realistic Thank you. I am looking forward to the weathering of the pit. This was my first go with the 3D panels. Turns out, these come off the backing sheet by gently getting a #11 blade under them, once you do that they are free of the sheet. I used a small dab of PVA glue to set them initially. This gives me working time to center them. Then I go back with some thin CA a small loop, and set it in at the edge of the panel. Giving it some extra hold.

There was disaster and progress today. Good news first. The instrument panel is now in place. Easy peasy! Here is a dry fitting of the landing gear. The fuselage, cowling, wings, and horizontal stabilizers are all now permanent. It was later in the day that I had an incident at the bench. It started with finding the strainer I needed to make dessert for Christmas dinner was broken. The ring had separated, and it is made of ABS. I have a solvent based glue that will work with that. The primary ingredient is MEK. So, before I open the bottle, my little voice says, "Self, you really should put the bottle in the holder". I think it'll be fine. Next, my little voice says, "Self, you should really put the cannon and barrel assemblies, up out of the way." I think it'll be fine. The strainer is gluing back together nicely. Then, my oven hit of a hand hits the bottle, and douses the cannons and barrels. Initially, I thought it might be OK. But, when I waterboarded the parts in Windex, to remove the destroyed paint, which it did. It also revealed that the plastic is now crazed. Crap. I have formulated a repair plan. I think it'll work. It will involve repairing some detail that will have to be obliterated in the process. Thank heavens for the Grant Line rivets I have in the styrene stash. The lesson I was reminded of, again, is that if your little voice is not only saying something, but repeating itself, STOP! And listen to it. Well, we will just put up my mistake to serve as a warning to others. Cheers Dave

AHHHH. Oh no Dave. My condolences. Still, it sounds like you've already got a plan, so that is good. I know you'll do a great job repairing this damage. Thank you. I've reached out to Border to see if a replacement sprue is an option. I feel that I can likely salvage the upper cannon assemblies. It's the barrels that are giving me trouble. The barrels are crazed pretty badly, and the solvent glue "altered" the paint. The paint, which is acrylic, is not stripping off very easily with the Windex. I am putting the whole thing down for the night. I'll come back at it with fresh eyes tomorrow. I have thoroughly washed all of the parts in water. Hopefully the crazing of the parts has stopped. Thank you for having a gander. Cheers Dave

A fair bit of progress today. I was able to salvage the recoil mechanisms and barrels. The metallics and clear coat applied. The next step will be color and chipping. The cannon assembly is dry fitted under the wing. All of the control surfaces are mounted.
I painted the edges of the gun sight with a mix of clear blue and green to give the appearance of thick glass Port side landing light. Looks like there a a few wee gaps to fill.
Cheers Dave

I, like most of us in here, have had those "UH-OH" moments like that as well Dave and you're right.....if that little voice is back there saying something....run with it. Gut instinct is right 99.999% of the time. It looks like you've made a good recovery effort and are well on the way now. That instrument panel looks GREAT btw. Coming together very nicely.
