That metallic layer looks great. I’m surprised how well the Vallejo metal colors perform

Your update caught me by surprise... whole body painted with metallic alumium! I can't wait to see the outcome! Surprise! I tried the "strategic" placement of metallic paint on a couple of prior builds. The results weren't quite what I was looking for, soooooo, the whole thing gets painted in metallics.

It's looking good. You did a great job overcoming the issues you've had. Thank you. Metallics are one of the ultimate tests to see if ones sanding, filling and prep work is up to scratch. After many years, it looks like I'm finally there . The wing that had a grinding session with the work shop floor looks like it never happened. Woo Hoo!

My harnesses from HGW arrived today! They were worth the wait. The harnesses themselves are made from some sort of fabric. Quite durable really. The buckles are made of PE, and a few extras of certain parts are included. Handy really, as I've made an offering to the concrete monster. Unless you have pristine eyesight, you'll be needing to make use of your Opti-Loupe and a couple of your best needle nose tweezers. The harnesses are largely a scaled down version of the real thing. That is you'll need to route the straps through the buckles. It can be a bit fussy, but the results are worth the effort.
VERY flexible!
Before....
After! I could only get a 4x5 to work. I wanted a 5x5 lacing. For a brief moment I contemplated scratch building a seat so that I could have the 5x5 lacing. I let that one go.
The end result for the pilots shoulder harnesses. Lap belts to follow for both crew.
My wish list item is a decent DLSR with a nice macro lens. Until then... Thank you for having a gander. Cheers Dave

Holy cow… you did the weaving on the seat?! 😵💫 Yup! That was kind of fun. I had done it once before. Except it was entirely scratch built. It was for a Do 17Z-2. The jump seat kind of got left out. So, I built one. Here it is installed with the seat back.
Cheers Dave P.S. Thank you

I really like the whole metallic coat approach before color Dave. There was a fella named Donn Yost that I learned metallic priming from a few years ago and I had forgotten about it until I saw you do it here. I'll be looking forward to the color coats to follow. Now.....about these seat belt harnesses and seat webbing.........

Now that I have the harnesses to work with, I am that much closer to buttoning up the canopy and getting on with painting.

Holy cow…. I am in shock at how nice those weaved seats turned out. This is competition winning material! Thank you kindly. They are easy peasy to make. These came with the harness kit. If you want to scratch build them, get some fine gauge lead wire. Like the kind they use to tie flies with. Roll it out. I used a flat roller I picked up at a hardware store years ago. I can be picked up from hobby suppliers as well. When you have your stock rolled out and flattened to your liking, just weave it together. It's a nice visual result in the end.

The HGW harnesses are all done and mounted. The gunners seat was the first finished and mounted. I realized after I took this picture, that the pilots back pad was not going to pass muster. No features whatsoever! I figure if Rüdel is going to be flying that much, yanking and banking, then the pad should not look pristine. The original pilots head pad to the right got converted to slag when I spilled ABS cement on the bench. It doesn't show up as nice in the picture, but I worked in some irregularities into the pad. At least it looks more used than "straight off the assembly line" I had also remade the the pilots head pad. Here is the new pilots head pad. Painted and dry brushed to give some wear and tear. The pilots seat is now permanently mounted. And now the canopy is assembled! Soon, it'll be time for paint.
Cheers Dave
