I've started back up on the decals. They are coming along OK, but touch ups will be needed when done. I am realizing that I should have weathered the camo first then sealed the paint. Let's just chalk this up to learning and polishing up some finishing skill sets. What looks like silvering on the balkenkreuz decals is actually the paint that basically, got "chipped/weathered" under the decal. A first for me. Once fully dry, I'll load up my trusty Iwata and correct that. Or, I'll weather up the bird and make it work for me. Creation by mistake.
Not the most uniform white border around the black markings. At least the Werk number went on without much fuss.

Yeah, it looks fantastic, Dave. What, the chevron is shifted slightly down? Absolutely not noticeable unless you're looking for it. I hear ya though... I had a heck of a time centering the yellow triangle petrol callouts over the white on the A3.

Those double decals that you mentioned make me want to chew on aluminum foil. These decals are not the worst I’ve worked with, but they are trying.

It certainly is a PITA, but I think I prefer it over decals that are printed off registration. IIRC the same yellow over white petrol callouts were printed that way on my stencil sheet for one of the 1:32 Fw190s I did. I ended up painting the white triangles and then trimming the white off the decal and centering that. The struggle is real, my man. Keep it up, you're doing awesome.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. At least they got the petrol callouts printed correctly. Now to determine where some of the maintenance stencils go. I like your solution of painting the white triangle.

I’m not one for those double decals either Dave. Despite your hardships this is turning into one good looking model.

I’m not one for those double decals either Dave. Despite your hardships this is turning into one good looking model. Probably no worse than the guys that actually had to paint them in 2 layers on the real aircraft. Not likely that they were perfectly even and straight since the stencils must have slipped more than once.

I made progress with the non-referenced stencils. I used the decal sheet from an Airfix Stuka in the stash. It took care of most of the stencils. There are a couple left that I have no idea about, so I may just let them go. Last night I was getting the last of the markings on and this chevron was the very last. The apex tore apart at the last second. Fortunately, I was able to mostly salvage it. I'll get some touch up done on it later.
Here's the second decal I worked with. It's the balkenkreuz that had a chunk fracture loose. I had removed the chunk in anticipation of doing an airbrush fix. The AB fix was completed this evening.
Cheers Dave

Great save with the balkenkreuz decal! Thank you kindly! I did get some paint touch up done for the upper balkenkreuz decals as well. I'll get some pics up later. It was one of the fixes where my initial thought was, "it's not so bad". After the fix, my thought was, "Oh! It really was that bad".

Jump on into the build. It's often the best way to get better at it. Think of it as a was to improve your skill sets. Often, I've found, that several other skill sets will get a polishing along the way. Moreover, it's a hobby, have fun with your builds.

Looking very good. Nice work on the decals Thank you kindly. The decals work ok, though I am not a fan of them. No AM decals that I am aware of for this scale of Stuka.

I touched up the paint around and on the upper balkenkreuz decals. The setting solution reacted rather strongly with the paint. I hadn't had that happen before. The important part was the decals went down and didn't blow up. The paint under the decals between the chevrons making up the balkenkreuz, mostly went away and exposed the metallic undercoat. Which would have been fine, had I not blindly followed the botched color callout for the splinter scheme. It really did look odd. So, I cut out some stencils and sprayed around the white chevrons and voilà! Fixed. I did not give it a full uniform coverage, to lend to a weathered, and used aircraft.
