Today was paint the pilot day. The basic painting is done. Base coat, highlights, shadow. Weathering will happen tomorrow, as the eye balls need a break for the night.

It was a productive day today in and around the house. The repair of the collapsed section of fence went much faster than anticipated. I also was able to get some time in at the bench this evening. The first set of pictures show the beginnings of weathering on the Stuka. Worn and chipped paint. The last set of pictures are the beginnings of some rudimentary base work. It's a start.






The grass tufts are by AK as are the soil effects.  More work to be done.

That’s a very sharp looking build! Not to mention a different paint scheme for a Stuka instead of the more common RLM 70/71 scheme or RLM 79/80 tropical scheme.

That figure sure adds another layer of depth as does the base work and the added chipping & wear effects add the cherry on top of an already stellar build. I forgot about these guns only having 12 rounds. YEESH!!! Talk about making every round count!!

Thank you kindly Joe! Having the figure included in the kit was a good excuse to dust off the figure painting skill sets. There are some armor builds I want to do that will include multiple figures. Fortunately for the pilots, the top armor was relatively thin. But then again, with only 12 rounds per gun, you don't get a lot of passes to make.

Some base work was accomplished today. With this done, now I can start fine tuning the base, and start on weathering the Stuka.
The static grass is from Noch, 2.5 mm Spring Meadow with some 4mm Medium Green thrown in from Woodland Scenics. It was applied with a home made static grass applicator.

I kept wondering how the grass was applied to bases, and this is the second time I've heard of an applicator on this site. I'm looking forward to trying my hand at a base for future aircraft builds as I get encouraged by every base I see built up.

The applicator is a negative ion generator. Essentially it’s a bug zapper. I built mine when Radio Shack was still around. Mine is a 120v, so one must exercise caution with its “hot”. They’re pretty neat, especially when you see the static grass following the ion flow.
