Nice Andrew. I can't start a kit without the canopy masks these days. No what you mean. I once did DIY masking on a 1/72 Bf110.....I'll let that sink in for a moment, what with all that glass....and then not long afterwards did a kit that came with masks and was sold. I know it adds a lot to the price especially when compared to the price of cheaper kits but it saves so much time and aggravation!

Ya, clear well painted canopies make the model. You can screw up a lot of little ways but a bad canopy ruins a model.

That's great timing... I'm actually thinking of getting one of these. Will have to see if available in the UK

Will have to see if available in the UK Obviously there are much more expensive ones that are probably "better" but at the price point this is really good. The size is much nicer than my smaller one and the build quality is good. My only criticism is that it does not have different tones of light like my old one did. Not a huge deal since I usually use the pure white light anyway. There are several different backgrounds with it but I haven't played with them yet.

I'll definitely have to look at getting one.....and they do sell this in the UK!

I recently found out that Revell and several others are discontinuing several kits. So, I bought some before the scalpers jack up the prices. The one that got me the most was the Revell 71 442. This one surprises me as it is not very old. I got 2 as I have plans to try and kit bash one of them with the curbside 68 GTO. Not sure if it will work, but no harm in trying. The other one that I didn't get is the Revell 1/32 Iron Maiden SPitfire, RIP. I also picked up the AMT 68 GTO just so I would have it in the stash when I'm ready.

These came in the mail today. A bunch of LEDs for a few Star Trek builds coming up. I'm still waiting for some aftermarket parts. Engine nacelle caps, corrected main sensor antenna, and correct B/C deck for the old AMT 1/650 TOS kit. The LEDs are for a TOS Data pad, a 1/650 and 1/1000 TOS Enterprise's.

Interesting, so there is a light in the top? I usually just clean up my paint booth and lay a piece of poster board in it for taking photos. I have a swing arm lamp with a daylight bulb over the paint booth for use in painting and photos. This looks like a nice compact solution that wouldn't require cleaning up the paint booth.

I didn't even know this kit was out and they are discontinuing it? That is either very quick, or I've been living under a rock. Option 2 is quite likely.

There are 4 rings of LED lights in the top that are dimmable. There is then a removable sheet of translucent plastic that diffuses the light so there is little glare. There are some units that give the option of different tones of light but this one only has the bright white. It is nice because it can sit right beside my build table which makes taking progress shots a breeze. Is very handy if you want to stow away between projects because it folds all up and just slips into a carry case which is included. Can see the lights here:

Mine is similar but it has 4 strips of leds across the top and they are angleable so you can back light with them as well. The real advantage though is you can get great depth of field with the extra light and still keep a reasonable shutter speed and still bleach out the surround like this so its all about the subject and not the background

My poor old camera ain't got no shutter speed. Now you just talkin' fancy talk. I really should think about upgrading my camera but this is all I would ever use it for so it isn't really a good use of money.

My poor old camera ain't got no shutter speed. Now you just talkin' fancy talk. I really should think about upgrading my camera but this is all I would ever use it for so it isn't really a good use of money. Digital SLRs have been out long enough now, that they have gone through several generations, and mirrorless cameras have really started to compete. Now there are plenty of perfectly good, but no longer cutting edge Canon and Nikon DSLRs online and in camera shops for as little as $100-200. Nice thing with Canon and Nikon is you can still use lenses from the film days so for static photography like models you can get really good quality manual focus lenses pretty cheap. Sure they may "only" be 12-15mp, but you will have full control of all the features to do artsy photos. I have a Canon T1i which was Canon's then current entry level "prosumer" DSLR in 2010. The kit (camera & 18-55mm lens) that I paid around $800 for in 2010 you can now get used for about $150, sometimes less. The current generation of cameras now run 24-32mp instead of 15mp, and the video features are more robust, but my T1i still takes great photos.
