I've always loved the details of these kits and you are nailing them perfectly! This is looking brilliant so far!

For a while it felt like “when am I actually going to build something?” But, that is par for course with WnW kits, at least for myself. A lot of detail painting on the CP, BEFORE anything else happens. I’m thinking I should get some pics of the flight deck assembly before i sandwich it in the fuselage halves Cheers Dave

If it's one thing I like, it's a well detailed model build and there's plenty of that going on in here. I'm curious to see if there was any bullet proofing done to those fuel tanks in those days. I'm with Andy......I wouldn't want to be within a country mile of those things!!

I'm with Andy......I wouldn't want to be within a country mile of those things!! Thank you Joe! I think they were just metal tanks, sans self sealing and bullet proofing. For reference, in the Bristol F.2b, the pilots seat was on top of the fuel tank. Cheers Dave

I doubt that there was any armor on such aircraft. The weight penalty would have been too much for the engines of the time. It really wasn’t until the combat experiences of the Spanish Civil War and Sino-Japanese War in the 1930s that armor and self sealing fuel tanks on aircraft came into vogue.

They were mostly empty space. Especially when you compare them to today’s aircraft. They are jam packed with gear! Heck, back then if you look at the wing span compared to what their gross weight was compared to something a couple of decades later, it’s amazing they got off the ground/water. Cheers Dave

A nice bit of progress today. The interior portions of the wood were painted. The base coat was Vallejo, and then gone over with a few different oils, and enamel washes. All of these were done with a fan brush. These were then toned down with multiple passes with a fan brush dampened with white mineral spirits. I figured I'd try some outdoor shots. The rigging is EZ Line fine.
The fuselage halves are now glued together. The top portions are only dry fitted here. The openings will help to draw the eye in. Off to the right you can see the two Rolls Royce engines. Those are last nights progress.
Cheers Dave

Dave, this is some really quick and incredible nice work. The wood tones look awesome. The cockpit details are incredible and it all looks wonderful stuck together. This is coming together so well!! Thank you kindly. The wood tones went off rather quickly. The outer rear panels on the fuselage are diagonal wood slats. One of the best parts is that they are a separately moulded parts. That way I can paint the fuselage and the panel without a lot of pesky masking. Win/win!. A big slow down will be coming. They way this beastie goes together, I'll need to paint the fuselage then rig it. Afterwards, I'll move on to the vast expanse of the wings, and rigging. Cheers Dave

Jeez, the interior looks awesome! Wish we could see more of it when it is done especially the wood panels. The seatbelts are just way too good! Thank you kindly Andy! There will be a fair bit of exterior wood paneling and slats, which is why I am going with the scheme I choose. Not that I wasn't tempted by the several dazzle paint schemes. The seatbelts are the PE included in the kit. I had forgotten that HGW makes fabric seatbelts for this kit. By the time I had remembered that, I was too deep into the build and did not want to stall the build waiting for them. Cheers Dave

Today was a masking marathon. The topside of the forward fuselage is Clear Doped Linen laid over stringers. I decided I did not want to hand paint all of the stringers. It felt to be more painful than masking then airbrushing. The EP marks will not be visible. The topside is all glued in place. It was nearly a three handed job. The nose piece has yet to be mounted. It has some interior detail painting to be done. Also, the spare Lewis magazines need to be painted and mounted
Cheers Dave
