I got a bit further today. There were some must do outdoor chores that had to be done today. The rear fuselage side panels got painted today. I painted them the same way I had painted the inside portion. I added a gloss coat, which really made the grain pop! The gloss coat needs a bit of touching up.
I used some putty by AK to fill the seam on the top of the fuselage, right behind the waist gunners. I'll let this dry for a good long while. I’ll come back at it with some wet sanding. These are hull steps. The closest ones in the picture are the aft steps Here's what they look like, not yet glued in place. Glued, and the beginnings of exterior paint!
Cheers Dave

Wow, that took some time I bet. Also, patience. Lots of patience. Oh yes it did! It was done in a couple of sessions. Even with the Opti-Loupe, the eyes needed a break. My mantra was, "It'll look better than hand painting" Cheers Dave

Wow, that took some time I bet. Also, patience. Lots of patience. Sorry for the delay. The rigging actually progresses fairly quickly. It’s the painting that has taken the bulk of the time. Cheers Dave

I made some progress yesterday and today. Primer and a wee bit of paint. The Primer is AK black primer. The top coat is Vallejo IJN Medium grey. It was the closest thing I had to clear doped linen. This should give a sense of scale.... As should this The tadpole is primed. The initial top coat laid down.
Cheers Dave

That's a pretty dang large aircraft model right there Dave. I'm right there with you on not only household projects but car / truck repairs as well. I've got a transmission to install in our sons truck this Friday and after that, one in my own truck. lol
I'll just bet you're glad to be this far along on the build with all the real life setbacks. lol

I’ve got a chore list today, but one look outside has me reconsidering it. A whole lotta smoke has come down the valley from several fires. Good luck with your projects. Like other WnW builds, the starting progress seems so slow. Then…BAM! Holy cow! I’ve got an airframe in front of me. Cheers Dave

There was a lot of fuselage painting that happened over the last two bench sessions. Please excuse the photo dump! The empennage is only dry fitted here. The wooden slats on the aft sides are now glued in place. There is yet some detail painting to be done on the control horns and fittings. There is detail on the forward ends of the horizontal stabilizers that I did not realize were there until I started laying down the topside color. You can almost make out the additional ribs between the stitching near the leading edge. That's one of the things I enjoy about WnW kits. There are assemblies that at first blush, appear simple. Just wait! The prize has yet to be revealed. Initial base coat for the nose. There's a bit of oil and acrylic effects to be completed. I am not sure why I have bumps in my paint. The weather here is a bit weird. Hot and smokey as HE"double toothpicks" You can make out the grain effect on the fuselage side in this picture. The access steps are painted.
Cheers Dave

Stellar paint work sir! I'm getting psyched to see your rigging work! Thank you kindly sir! You may not have to wait too long for the rigging. There are areas on the empennage that will need to be rigged long before the wings go on. Cheers Dave

A bit of progress today after finally being able to get stuff done outside, with the smoke being far less today. The inner wing panels and empennage are now painted and mounted. This is the wind driven fuel pump. I am guessing that the floor mounted pump took up the slack, until enough speed was attained to drive the wind driven fuel pump. I am guessing that the black stripes are part of the bitumen sealing applied to the hull. Here, i would imagine it is for the seams between the panels. Looking up under the port side of the tail.
Cheers Dave
