Wow Gary, it looks outstanding! Sorry, I’m late to reply but I’m here. I don’t know why you would want to bother with another canopy cause this one looks fine to me! But I understand how much pride you take in your work and it shows. You should be real proud of this one especially it being your first airplane kit.
Ah . . . Gary, you didn’t by chance lift it up in front of you and make any engine sounds while pretending to fly it? Cause you’re supposed to do that, it’s a traditional wingy thing to do!
Happy Holidays Gary and Happy belated Bday to your nephew,

Gary, one of the finest Spits I’ve seen… 1st or 50th. Vac canopies can be a daunting task even for the most experienced winger. If you rough cut the canopy out it will loose a lot of the rigidity that you want to have. Filling the canopy, as already mentioned, is a good idea. Silly Putty may have too much give to be effective. Dense clay is a better idea. Milliput even better as it cures rock hard. Test that on a scrap piece to make sure it comes off clean. Can’t shot down the enemy if you’re looking through frosted glass. Now comes the fun part (read that nerve racking)… making the cut. Some vac’d canopies have the frames crisply outlined. More often than not that is not the case. Once you figure out where you want to cut I find that a cutting guide is handy. For any straight cuts I use Dymo tape, cut into strips if need be. Adhesive holds it in place and it’s thick and sturdy to help guide the blade. For the curve, like the front edge of the sliding part say, strips of masking tape works. That works for the straight arts too. The idea is for a visual ref when cutting since the mold line on the canopy can be tough to see sometimes. You want it a hair too big to have some wiggle room for sanding and adjusting. Very important here… If you like to listen too music while you work… DO NOT play “The First Cut is The Deepest” Get that though right out off your head mister. Use a brand new #11 blade. Make each cut in several passes, not one deep cut all the way through. Work on one cut at a time, such as the left side, then the right, the front and the back. The 1st cut is the most important as it will guide the blade from this point on. Hold the blade at the angle it will need to match the mounting surface. That may not be perpendicular to the surface. With careful set up before the 1st cut you should get pretty close and ten it’s sanding to get the exact fit like we all do all the time with any part. Once you get the canopy cut, depending on how much Milliput you used, you can sand that right along with the canopy if you want o keep that support. If the vac'd piece is on the thick side you can probably take the plug out to make it easier. Sorry for the long winded post but the description often is worse then that action itself. Good luck my friend.
