Hi fellas I know...I shouldn't be doing ANOTHER build, but heck...as long as I'm having fun ;D I promised a while ago on a Dutch modelling forum that I would participate in an IDF GB...I totally forgot about it but they gently reminded me about my promise...the GB started in January so I quickly ordered me this kit yesterday: It's Trumpeter's T-62 Mod 1972 I want to keep this fairly simple and OOB, I just ordered me some damaged wheels - courtesy of Panzer Art And some resin tracks of the MasterClub brand...somehow I thought this kit would have rubber band tracks, but when opening the lid (it arrived today, what a service ey - Sockelshop.de!!!) I saw they were individual track links...so didn't necessary need the resin ones... What has this got to do with IDF you say? Well, everything which participated in the Arab-Israeli wars was allowed, so I thought to depict a destroyed and burnt out Egyptian T-62 I guess you get the picture ey ;D Should be a fairly quick build since the GB ends in June or July I allready found Gary's T62 blog at Armorama, and together with Robs destroyed one they will be good examples for me Since I pretty much don't know jack about the T-62, extra info is welcome...especially on Egyptian camo and markings I made a start with the running gear but no photos yet (wow, MUCH lesser wheels than a Tiger ;D) Cheers

Very glad you fellas like the idea, hope I can get a decent endresult... Well, started with construction this weekend. Kit falls practically together. The Trumpy kit has a bit more flash than I'm used to, but nothing a modeller can't handle. Gary's blog has proved very handy so far. I decided to add some wiring to both the grab handles on the hatches as on the sides of the turret. Made a big impact hole in the turret using a hot drill bit, and some smaller ones from the debris of the impact, used a hot needle for that. Gary was so kind to count the number of track links on his model ;D, thanks for that bro, 97 worked well indeed! I have been busy cleaning up 97 of them and assembling them today, holy crap . Will do the other side, errrm, another day Some shots: I admit, it must have been a VERY large caliber ;D well, that's it so far. I am going to try to replicate the blown up fuel bin as seen on the last photo of my first post here. I have some lead foil somewhere and going to use the plastic part as a template. Never done that before so not sure if it's going to work out... Cheers

Nice start Maybe it was a RPG grenade that blew that turret

Wouts -the lead foil might be a bit tricky - but you could try Aluminimum (as found in food/pie trays) embossed over the it parts and then generally butchered. I've got some pics in an osprey volume somewhere if I can find it and scan it/take a pic.

Luigi and Spud, thanks mates jackwagon, thanks mate, I'm still me, just a fast version...no Speed involved though ;D Andy, yeah, I know ;D. Thanks dude! Paul, thanks for the tip! Will try that one first. Looking forward to see you post the scans Joe, sure you can mate. My usual pace is a year per build on average, but I'm able to have some exceptions, so you can as well...just say 'Yes, I can!' ;D Cheers

Ian, thanks mate...you know I have been thinking about that, and it would look cool, but then I had to scratch parts of the interior and I wanted to keep things simple. And I was happy to find photos of penetrated turrets still intact on the hull Jaymes, thanks dude, glad you like it, and thanks for the link, that's a great one! Well, building pace has slowed down a bit . Cleaning up the tracklinks just isn't the sexiest part of the hobby...finally tracks in place on both sides, together with the fenders... And just for fun, a comparison shot with a Tiger I Cheers

Can't wait to see some color on this one!! ;D thanks bro, and it should have some color soon...dunno how to pull the rust/burnt/chipped look but hey, we'll see. Any idea how to do the piles of ashes of the burnt rubber roadwheels? Cheers

Ahhh...color!! Just the mear sound brings on the drool!! Don't worry about the burn rusty side of things....good that you are thinking about it!! Just fire away with questions if need be!! We are all watching!! As for the ash....well, one of the easiest is ashes from cigarettes and/or cigars. You can use them pretty much like regular pigs in the sence of application...all the whiter greys and blacks mixed in. Just work it in layers building up the piles...use thoose reference pics I know you have that show how the ash lays around the wheels after burning. Remnants from burnt wood and paper like if you make a fire or whatnot. The black on a log can bescraped off crushed up fine and is then just like pigments as well as the ash. MIG and AK have some pigments you can work with as well. White/Off White, Greys, Black, all good. Again, layers! PM on it's way!!

Great job, Wouter The comparison is very interesting and it shows the progress in armor building. The 62 has lower profile, a bigger gun and a smaller turret

thanks again dudes, most appreciated T, thanks again for that, many pm's will follow ;D well, buildstage nearing completion. Added the fuel lines, using Gary's build as an example - though mine aren't as detailed as his . I also thinned the forward fuel bin on the inside and made some holes in it...maybe shrapnel damage or corrosion, dunno yet. Did work out to use the plastic bin as a template and use lead foil or kitchen foil to produce a heavily damaged one, was a big FAIL ;D On the Dutch forum people stated that the broken area of the track doesn't 'make sense' or isn't realistic that the track broke there...maybe true, maybe not, but I'll leave it as is anyway... Hope you guys like it! Cheers

Sorry its too late for what you wanted Wouter, but finally got the link sorted -hopefully of use in the future. I've tried this myself and had a reasonable result- just nneds practice (and some inate modelling ability) to get a good result from it. hope you find it useful p

being a complete novice with armor can i ask why it is so out of order for the track to break there?
i think it looks pretty dang good.
