I started another Panzer III build as soon as I finished my StuG III F/8. Yep, another Imperial kit... they are still great kits but they only need little more love. Its a command tank Pz III Ausf K kit #9018 Aftermarket stuff mostly PE for this... So typical of Imperial kits, I will only need less than 50% of parts... I will not use those indy tracks... plan to use Friuls. Information on this variant is very limited vecayse they only made 50 of those Ausf K. However this book has enough information I need to build mine so it will be my bible once again....

Posting my first WIP here... Like I mentioned earlier it just needs little more attention... I had to make the hole bigger to make Pz IV turret fit the hull. Thank God for Dremel tool as it took me only two minutes to do the job. I have a confession to make... I have learned a great deal about this variant Ausf K. It has an odd looking muffler, intake guard, and bigger Pz IV turret to make room for radio equipment. I still need to sand the strips thinner to make them look better... More pics coming up...

Robbo- Awesome... always happy having you tag along! DickyF- LOL! Actually I started this build two weeks ago... thanks to summer break my boys are on now so I find myself at my workbench more now. I will not slow down while I still have the mojo! Guys- Another WIP update... catching up cause I am one of those newbies here. Spent few nights dealing with PE... don't y'all love those? Two of them in the rear... You can see why I had to opt for PE... molded clasps really sucked! Improved version... it even has a lock now. Gonna protect your booze! The kit part for cleaning rod was incorrect. My bible shows two pieces instead of three... Correct with leather straps from ModelWork PE set... That's where I am now... now I need to finish the other fender. From now on it will be actual updates. Comments are always welcome!

Very nice work on the old dog Andy. Nothing wrong with the imperial kits that a bit of work can't fix....and your showing this right now. Thing with new Dragon kits is that you have tons of left over parts....to use on imperial kits... Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one.

Thanks guys! Please don't think I am a weirdo but for some reason I do enjoy dealing with PE especially this time. LOL Another update... worked with PE for nearly four hours tonight. Jeez, I have to work in the morning... Spent a lot of time working on wooden block and more tools on the other side of hull... I removed second 'S' hook on purpose to show the clasps. Oh, is that flyer in the background? Rob gave me at the show but it took me forever to sign up... ;D

Sorry but I have to ask you guys about the karma... what is it? I looked everywhere and I can't find... I just noticed it went from zero to one. Maybe modeling gods were pleased that I modeled til 2am and I have to get up at 7am for work?

Yep, that's it Andy. You get Karma points for the modeling overtime. LOL. Basically it's what Karma is. Do good and get good Karma, piss people off and get it taken away. LOL So yeah if you stay up until 1am and wake up at 5am, like I did, then yep the modeling gods will be good to you.....I wish, LOL
The PE work has paid off Andy, the block and clasps look great. You aren't the only PE nut here, Tony is also into all that bling.
Aaah the flyer. We went through nearly all the flyers

Thanks Rob for the explanation! Yes Tony (Pvt Mutt) was one of few guys I followed for a long time and I always admired his PE work. I still need to learn how to do soldering so I can deal with PE better...
Off to get more coffee... I need plenty today.

Rolling right along with this one Andy! The Ausf K was an interesting hybrid...used an M hull (hence the muffler and air intakes), a Pz IV turret, and unlike most Pzbefehls, it still had the main gun as a working piece of armament! Love what you've done with it so far, look forward to seeing this one come to life.

Hey Bill my Texan friend! Glad you like what I have done so far! I wish I knew it had an M hull because I ordered the PE set for Ausf J/L. That explain why few things didn't match or were missing... my source book Achtung Panzer is mostly in Japanese so I couldn't tell.
I am building it for my GB at FSM I am hosting and things have been very slow now since not many are following it now. LOL
I am sending you a virtual beer icon now... that's something Rob needs to add to the smiley symbols!!!

Stunning PE work Andy, the detail in the kit looks right up to Dragon standard, not tried an Imperial kit yet

Dicky- Thanks man! Come on, a virtual beer I will use more than any of those smileys trust me. Look at some guys... they show beer in their avatar pics. LOL Robbo- Thanks! Imperial kits are not that bad. They are still better than most old Tamiya kits. Dragon just threw sprues from different kits together then and added one or two customized sprues if I am correct. Easy to build but dare you not to use their tools, hooks, or other parts as their details are not that great. This is my second Imperial build... my first was the StuG I recently posted. Afraid I don't have any Imperial left in my stash. I see plenty at model shows and I will not hesitate to buy if they are cheap... ;D Guys- Not much of update on my Panzer... was too tired... my fault for lack of sleep. But I wanted to show you the figure I ordered for this arrived yesterday... great service from Colorado Miniatures. Is it the very first figure released by Alpine? Because its number is 35001. I thought it would be a good choice because he is about to fire the flare gun as a leader riding in his command tank... Worked on the fire extinguisher only last night... Having out of state visitors staying at our place for next 3-4 days so am afraid my bench time is screwed... have a great one!

Any progress is good progress Andy! The Imperial Series kits are all reboxes of molds that DML purchased from other companies and then added their own sprues or replaced stuff that was in resin or white metal in the original kits with styrene parts. That's why you see a lot of 'extras' in them and why they have the 9XXX kit numbers. They are still bumping around since most were introduced in the mid to late '90s and can often be acquired fairly cheaply as a result. They also sometimes reincarnate as CH Orange Box kits (usually a sign that DML is just about to release a brand-new tooled kit of the same subjcet 3-6 months later) with some upgrades like Magic Tracks and/or figures thrown in to add a little more value.
Have fun with your guests this weekend!

Multicam- Thanks man! Glad you liked the figure... still wondering if it is the first set released by Alpine? Bullardino- Awesome. Those straps took me a while to put everything together. That wood box had 12 PE pieces and I spent nearly two hours I think. LOL Bill- Makes sense now! My previous Imperial StuG III had same sprues. Thank you! I have been keen about buying Orange boxes as my last two purchases were just OK but lots of pin marks. You may like this... one of the guests visiting us is my wife's twin sister. ;D And they are from New Orleans. Dicky- Pushing Uncle Tony (good one) and Bling Crosby? I wish! My work is nothing compared to their work. My laptop malfunctions every time I look at their work because my drooling got into the keyboard. Thanks for the nice words... more to come! Wouter- Hey my favorite devil beer drinker! LOL Always happy hearing from you buddy. You got yourself a new nickname... Bling Crosby? I like that... LOL Later

Once you buy some of the newer kits, you'll have plenty of extra parts for those imperial jobs....might grab a few myself. Like Bill said, you can get them cheap.
Love the PE on the extinguisher.

Rob- Not bad idea... I should be raiding my current stash as I have at least ten smart kits. I will keep that in mind if I ever run into trouble. Thanks boss! Oh, that fire extinguisher was easy... half hour and few foul words hollered when I broke the straps twice. LOL Gary- Glad you like it... thanks! So you want trade it for that 1/16 German officer of yours?

Worked on the panzer little over the weekend. Didn't like the kit part so I took one from an aftermarket set. I am not too impressed with Aber's choice on breaking up so many pieces just for the jack. I have used Royal Model recently and it came in fewer pieces. I ain't Uncle Tony for sure... Needed a break from PE I worked on the resin figure... I am concerned about the eyes on the figure... poor details. Turret has been assembled... Best news... no boys for the whole week. They have left for Boys Scout camping this morning so it means a lot of bench time for me until Saturday!!! ;D My two boys are at first row... fourth and fifth from the left.

Cool looking jack. I've got quite a few leftovers, had I known you needed one I'd have sent it to you.
Cool that you have lots of bench time coming up.
