Andy - Thanks, hope as I weather it looks even closer!!
Dicky - Thanks, As you will see with all my work I always use a base with some minimal "matching ground work. I am not a true "dio" person...I enjoy the equipment not the scene.... but will do some base work to match the model. It won't be long before I head to the woodworking shop the make the base.
Joe - Thanks, I LOVE the Grex airbush. I have the .020 top feed and a .020 side feed. Stick with the top feed, the side feed can waste more paint and requires a bit more cleanup. The top feed is GREAT. I will probably sell my side feed and use the funds to get another top feed. Also get their air control valve for the air inlet....you can lower the air way down and thus get real close using the vented tip for this kind of camo work.

Mike
The camo looks perfect. Be easy on yourself and make the base a slab of blacktop from the motor pool!

I had long week on the road for work so not too much progress this week. I did get the body coated in future. I also made up the custom decal sheet for the bumper numbers. On the front I applied my custom bumper number and unit number, I used the kit decals for the star on the front license plate and I used Archer Transfers for their Bridge Marker set for the marker numbers. In the rear are the same set of custom bumper numbers and the star from the kit decals. On the body side I used the kit decals for the tire pressure markers over each wheels and for the fuel cover I created the Diesel Only decal. After allowing all the decals to harden, I applied another coat of future to seal the decals. I then painted the window gaskets around the two rear windows and the front windshield. That’s it for now, weathering up next with more details. As always feel free to leave a comment either positive or negative Rounds Complete!!

Joe - Thanks, you are too kind
Andy - OK....this was my vehicle when I was a Battalion Assistant S-3 also known as BN Fire Direction Officer. The unit is 187th Brigade, 5 Battalion, 5 Field Artillery and thus "187BDE 5/5FA" on the bumper. The vehicle was HQ34, as marked on the right side. These were used in the interim period between the M151A2 jepp and the M998 HMMWV. We had turned in all the jeeps and were not fully issued on M998 HMMWV.....soooo I had an M1009.
Thanks Guys

Way so cool! Building something you used to drive in. That will bring back a lot of memories... will it be clean or real dirty?
p.s. Brought AFV Club Long Tom yesterday on sale at LHS. My first thought... 'Mike is going to be happy when I build it one day'. ;D

Nice job with the custom markings Mike!
I'm not nitpicking but have to ask...is the spelling correct on the "Diesel Only" decal or are my eyes playing tricks on me that it says DESIEL ONLY?

Andy - Going to be faded and dirty. That's the fun of what I build, I can bring back memories.....all I need is scale muzzle blast!!
Ahhhhh.... the M59 155mm Gun. Will you do WWII or Korea. If you do WWII be sure to pick up Masters Productions tires. If you are going to use it with an M4 18 ton Tractor, get the Masters Production Tire and Cradle set. Though if WWII the better tow vehicle is the Mack NO 7 1/2 ton truck. It will be a good build!!

Bill - Thanks and yes the dyslexic typist strikes....already sealed under future....that's what I get for rushing....I feel soooooooo stupid. I swear never to do decals after a redeye trip ever again!! Oh well, the only saving grace is it is 4 pt print.....time for some weathering coverup. I can only say both artillerymen and engineers are great with numbers...but cannot spell worth a damm. I will retreat to my den of shame....
Thanks for picking that up....
I will be reciting my colorful metaphors in private!!

I didn't even notice the misspelled words. LOL Maybe nobody else will? Just add dirt or fuel stains to it then you will be OK. I knew I could count on you my artillery friend... I have so many questions so I will be in touch when I am ready to build probably in late 2013 as I already have 3 or 4 projected builds. More likely I want to use Mack truck but I looked everywhere on internet and I couldn't find 7 1/2 ton truck kit. Maybe I used wrong words...

Andy - Both Azmut and Wespe make a resin version of the Mack NO 7 1/2 ton truck. My understanding is the Azmut kit is better than the Wespe kit. If you do a search... 1 35 Mack NO .....

Sorry to trigger a round of WP epithets in your den Mike! The trouble with macro photography is that it's merciless...but the human eye will skip right over the misspelled word and read it correctly without close examination at normal scale size. Just add a little fuel spill and dirt accumulation and no one will be the wiser! Can't tell you how many times I've committed similar typos...thank goodness for IEspell check! ;D

Prof - Thanks for stopping in and the comment
Bullardino - Thanks, trying to keep the ball rolling.
Marc - Thanks for stopping in. as for Andy's comment remember...."If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". Always good to look ahead for research..... now follow thru is another question!!
Bill - The plan is a touch of dirt and my usual fuel stain. As for the epithets....was not the first or the last. The problem with spell check is when you use all caps for the stencil....computer assumes a name and does not show the problem.
Now....this is why we do WIP posting....sometimes you are soooooooo far into the woods you cannot see the trees or in this case base on size, the leaves!! Thanks

Looks just like a less tired version of the ones I see in town all the time. I'd have never noticed the spelling on the tank flap had it not been pointed out, too much else to look at I guess.
Regards, Mark

Bob - Thanks for the peek and for the comment
Mark - Thanks. There are still a lot of these vehicles around. As for the spelling, we all have a FUBAR now and then. I will try to make it not noticeable with weathering. Thanks for making comments.
Tonka - Thanks my friend... there were plenty of these on the USMC side. The kit does come with multiple version decals including USMC TAC markings!!
