Dunkelgelb III is on. Had a bit better luck with this. Although, despite being thinned 50-50 with distilled water, the spray just isn't continuous/steady enough to do what I'm usually able to do with Tamiya. The odd part is that the paint doesn't tip dry (ever?), but starts to get a bit gummy in the brush, resulting in "patchy" flow. Not the sort of thing you want when trying to spray fine lines. Going to have to get some of the AK thinner to see if it makes a difference...otherwise, I'll either use this stuff just for base coats where I can open up the airbrush (and not worry about spatter), or try to color match Tamiya stuff to this (because I DO like having variation in the colors I use). Next up - stenciled markings. Don't want to have to take the time to gloss/place/set/flat decals if I can do the same thing in 20 minutes with stencils. Another update tonight!

Looking good Marc. The good thing about thse paints being thin is that you can create cool shadow/lighting effects with the opacity. Looking forward to seeing the weathering on this one.

Looks like you have a good handle on things despite the variations in paint mixes.

Marc with all that green color the weathering will really stand out. Just be sure to work it in layers, a little at a time and go slow. Look at the Stug I did and you'll get an idea of how the green color will look with dust and earth effects.
LOL, yeah bring it on down bro.

Sometimes I wish I could do that...build/paint/hand off to one of the masters for various publication projects. I'd be totally fine with that.

Let's see. Turret numbers stenciled on, spare tracks drilled out/wire added, painted said spare tracks as well as the DS tracks "Tracks Primer" grey/brown by Vallejo. Up next will be attaching all of the now-painted roadwheels. I don't THINK there's a reason to leave them loose unless I decide to have some of the schurtzen missing. With a full rack of them on there, you can't see anything past the drive sprocket and idler for the most part. Bunch of detail painting to crack into as well.
Once the tracks get weathered (starting tonight) those will get added permanently then the schurtzen can also be mounted for good. Hope to hit the whole deal with a first filter before bed if I'm lucky.

Progressing nicely Dupes!! Found the darker colors in the set to be a bit sticky in the AB. Had to thin them down as well but ran fine as soon as I did. I agree with Rob, the large green surface area is a treat to weather!!

Ehhhh...I was in the middle of posting a long update when the forums crapped out. You're all going to have to settle for just a pic! More delightful commentary tomorrow (along with more updates).

Todd - how thin did you make them to get them to flow properly?
And, second question - what are you using for thinner?

Time to start getting this beast weathered! Threw a rusty-colored wash at the tracks this morning before work...filters etc. on the vehicle itself when I get home. I have the AK "Nato Green" vehicles set, thinking that one will be the most appropriate for this as the colors are more in line with Nato tri-color than the usual dunkelgelb-with-some-green-and-brown.
Question - chipping first, then filters/washes? Or the other way around?

Well, this is magnificient work Dupes! I domy washes and some filters prior chippin, then usually top with a filter or two to blend it all in. Once again: Nice job right there!
Phil.

Chip before filter or filter after chip...all depends on which 'layer' you want to be on top in the grand scheme of things. If you can't decide, do both!

AHHHHHH! The zen method! Alright Bill, you got it. Been plugging away at detail painting tools and other bits as well as weathering the tracks and wheels/suspension. That, and re-watching all of my Mig DVDs looking for good techniques and ideas! Filters, washes, and chipping will have to wait until tomorrow.

So what's today, Tuesday? Leaves me four more days to finish weathering...no sweat! She's got wheels and tracks, detail painting galore, and initial base-color chipping. Still working on finishing the tool painting, then it's darker chips, washes, and oil dots. Bit o' pigments and anything else I can think of, then I'm thinking she's going to be done? Most likely no update tomorrow - IPMS Chapter meeting - unless I can squeeze in an hour or two after work.

Beauty of a job there Dupes!! Really looking forward to seeing some weathering going down on her!! Sorry I actually missed the question back there......I went 50/50 with water and dialed it back from there. I revisited the set after I picked up some of AK's New Acrylic thinner; 1:5(6) with the thinner from wha I found. Good luck getting her ready for the show and in it as well!!

She is really coming together. I, too, wish you did not have a club meeting tonight. I hope you got a double sized cup of DD coffee so you'll be able to hit the bench when you get home!!
