Unfortunately I've got to be at work at 6:15 tomorrow morning...or I would have hit DD on the way home. I can do it in three days!

no pressure right Marc...lol. It can be done fella, I did my Tiger in a week...well she needs tracks but they will be ready tomorrow. Love how this is turning out. Good job on the scratches and chipping. I am sure I will get to see (maybe even judge) this beast at AMPS East. Speaking of which, when is it this year ??

Plugging away, plugging away...washes, chipping, wrapping up the tools. Update tonight for sure! Rob - I have in my notes that AMPS East is the 27th and 28th of September this year, although I can't find anything online to confirm that? Not sure where I got those dates. Would love to be able to make a triumphant return after missing last year, but I don't know if it's going to happen. That shows tends to get very expensive for me...800-1200 miles driving depending how many days I go/where I stay, plus all the "other" stuff (food, lodging, entry fees, the damn vendor room). We'll see how things are looking in September.

Hey, thanks Dicky! Updating where I am at this point - all the tools are on (minus one tow cable - haven't been able to bend it into a "natural" position yet), wash done, darker chipping done. Next up will be oil dots, streaking, maybe some dust, pigments...wanted to be sure to get a shot before I start firing oils at it. Heh.

Very cool looking beastie there Dupes! Am curious about the red fire extinguisher...is that deliberate for a bit of color or part of the what-if? (External FEs on German vehicles were typically hull color is why I ask).

Getting there, man...got 2 days left, so I'll get done what I can, and if I have to do anything else I'll save it for after. Either way it'll go to the show on Sunday!

Then I'm doubly impressed with his ability to produce such stunning schemes. Indeed Dupes is color blind. That's why I'm always trying out these color sets! That, and asking tons of questions about how to get "accurate" color mixes for Tamiya paint. Heh. Oh, re: the fire extinguisher - I had a link bookmarked to a series of pics of red fire extinguishers on german vehicles...can't find it now. Must have been on my old laptop. Either way, just wanted something a little different, and a bit of color.

The colors I see are green, brown, and pretty close to white...but what I see those colors like is apparently FAR different than what other people do - very different contrast levels between different shades than "normal" people (hah!). They've been that way the whole time I've been alive, though, so I'm used to it? It just makes matching colors very difficult (by eye, anyway) which is why I rely so much on color mixes, color charts, specific paint references, etc etc.

No, no, Andy - the show is SUNDAY! I have one more day to do whatever else I want to this monster. Speaking of, here's what it looks like RIGHT NOW: So what next? I've got AK streaking-things galore, plus dusting things, pigment things...pretty much anything. Where to?

Looking at these pics, I'm going to have to play around with the white balance a bit (I think) as these seem a bit "washed out" compared to the actual thing. Todd - I know you're a master of the GIMP - we can discuss some time.

Hey Dupes!! Anytime! Florescent bulbs above this? Shooting you a PM Shortly. Not sure if what I did helped or hindered. Minor adjustments, trying to compensate for what I can only guess would be the balance between camera setting and lighting. A little warmer. As for streaky stuff...yup, I would say go for it! Less is more. Start light and apply tiny random lengths. As long as you have a clear coat any of the oil work prior you should be good to go! Fire off a mayday if something comes up!

Whoah...that's almost pink! Indeed fluorescents - all color matched 5000k "daylight" bulbs. Should be a way to mess with my camera, I'm guessing?
Re: streaking - been at it for an hour!

Noon on Saturday...I can still make changes if need be. Heck, I can do pretty much anything - almost 24 hours drying time still before I have to have it on the contest table! Here's where she stands after two kinds of vertical streaking, some dust washes, oil spills, exhaust soot, some general dirt "rubs". Todd - I played with some white balance settings (and a white background) - this look MUCH more like the real thing. These pics look soooo much better!

Looks good Marc. I'd touch up those C clevises, they look too silver. maybe some dark brown washes etc. They just look.. well to painted, silver. Other than that she came out great for the amount of time in the build and painting. Question....why such a rush to enter this in a comp ??

Thanks man! Looking at it now, I think that a lot of the chipping (that looked almost overboard at the time) has gotten swallowed up by subsequent weathering. Will keep that in mind on the next build.

Rob - I think you're right. I rubbed a bunch of dirt on the bottom halves, but the tops do look pretty bright. Need to put a small wash on the fire extinguisher too, so I'll hit those at the same time.
As far as contest rush - I need something for 1/35 axis! I've been building so much other stuff, I've neglected that category altogether (at least with quality builds). I also wanted to see if I could build something decent in ~10 days...that's the only way I'll get everything in my stash built before I'm 100. (Hah!) Plus deadline motivation has always helped me keep focus on one project only - an issue I'm trying to rectify (see my "shelf queens" thread for proof).
