That sure is a mouthful. There's got to be a shorter name to use with this monster...let's just call it a "Flak Panther". So I've got the second of my two spring shows in two weekends, leaving me 12 days of build time to bang something out. Need a good entry in the 1/35 axis category because it appears that I've built everything BUT that lately. Dying to try out the new AK Interactive "Late War Colors" set I picked up this weekend, and Bill planted a seed in the back of my head a couple of weeks ago when he posted the link for the new DML 1/72 Flak Panther kit, seen here: www.dragon-models.com/d-m-item.asp?pid=DRA7487We had the discussion about how if you build a kit using an obscure conversion (or what have you) then shortly thereafter a manufacturer will crank out a new-tooled one in plastic. Looks like it's my turn to cause a new kit release! Build will be on one of my Tamiya Panther G Late chassis using the Real Model resin conversion - seen here: realmodel.cz/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=garden_flypage.tpl&product_id=45&category_id=12&keyword=panther&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=79&vmcchk=1&Itemid=79As well as some other aftermarket goodies seen here: Started on step one tonight. Wish me luck!

I know I have a backlog of Shelf Queens to get to (although I have banged out several of those in the past couple of months), but this one will be a quickie...I promise!
Along those lines, odds are that I'll skip the Friuls to save time and use the set of Dragon DS tracks I picked up. If I can get those looking good enough, I can probably skip the schurtzen as well, cutting a little more there. Simple Tamiya etch set to add some grills, and I know I have some leftovers from a Dragon Premium Edition Late A kit that I might get on there if I need it.

I'm in crazy want-to-crank-this-out mode right now...chomping at the bit to get out of work and sand me some road wheels! Should think I'd be able to get the majority of construction done tonight, especially since the last 3 or 4 steps of the Tamiya instructions (turret) get completely ignored.

I'm in on this one for sure Dupes!!! Neat concept!! You will really like the Late War Set. You may need to mildly thin the two darker colors...drop of thinner or H2O would do the trick!!

Todd - does AK have their own thinner? I (obviously) don't have any, will have to resort to distilled water unless something else is a workable substitute. Sanding road wheels now...

Your going to build this in 12 days? I gotta see this. Yes, AK just released their own thinner. www.ak-interactive-usa.com/712.html Looks like some thinner and the 1945 book is in order....

Book on late war paint schemes? Whaaat? I'd need to get it here ASAP to get use out of it (for this build, anyway).
Damn, I could use some of their primer, too. And thinner. And...
Heading to AK before I go to bed tonight.

Hahaha...me too. Shelf queens galore. Feeling particularly motivated, though, both from the show a couple of days ago, the next one coming up, and that sweet set of paint! I should be building, not yapping...progress pics shortly.

Midnight...think I should consider going to bed! Started off with all of the road wheels. Got them done pretty quickly: For a change of pace from plastic, I started working on the resin turret. BIG casting block which could have been located better...? Took a 1 1/2" saw in the Dremel to get it free combined with a belt sander. Looks like there's a bit of bubbling on the rear face I may have to fill in a bit. Last shot is where I'm at right now: Upper and lower hulls attached, a lot of the smaller accessories are on. Barrels are only press-fit into place, I still have to decide what angle I want them at and drill some holes. With only a couple of steps left in the Tamiya instructions, a small bit of etch to do, and a bunch of grab handles to make, I don't see any reason why I can't finish construction tomorrow and get some primer on before close of business. Paint Thursday?

Andy - I'll try to throw up a few more schemes...been going through all of my Panther-related reference books to find something to mimic. The Kagero Topshots Panther book alone has 50 different paint jobs!

Hmmmm...apparently I'm doing a 3-tone camo scheme! Not a problem, want to see what all of those AK colors look like anyhoo.
Now what pattern am I going with? That's the question. Splinter? Ambush? Octopus?

Haven't been on my laptop in almost 24 hours, so can't post any pics. Update tonight, though! Things are proceeding well.
Still need to pick a paint scheme, though.

Looking good Marc. The AK late war colors are great, as are the primers and thinner. I think you'll like them.
