The show was a goodie, not a lot of vendors, but I scored a bunch of goodies anyway, and three of the four models I brought placed, so it was good all round. But, to the subject at hand. I had several hours Monday at the bench, and a couple today, so I'm coming along. I've gotten into the really fiddly bits like can straps, smoke discharger caps, other brass bits on the turret, that kind of stuff. I think my eyes need a rest. I've also started adding some stowage, thinking maybe this one will be prety thick with baggage. Anyway, the pics so far...... I think the next project may be something OOB.....and of course, after having spent upwards of an hour getting the Dragon gun tube round, I bought two, count 'em two, aluminum barrels for the M50 (Barrel Depot?) at the show. Of course.

Of course. I see what appears to be 5 different colors of styrene plus brass, resin, putty - I can see how you could use an OOB build! Hey, I can always trade you something for one of your extra barrels if you've got too many.

Me, trade off Sherman goodies? That's funny right there.... I do have two M50s in the works (read: I have enough parts for probably three and ideas for four) and..... I picked up an old Verlinden M50 turret at ScaleFest with a barrel that could shoot around corners it's warped so bad, but hey, it was cheap.

Congrats on the show awards Russ and nice to see this one moving along once more. You're a Shermie-hoarder, admit it!

What a nice progress I agree, all the pics and the videos I've seen of israeli tanks showed them crammed with stowage. Looks like israeli tankers are like women, they bring home with them when they travel.

Roland, Dicky, thank you both kindly. A little more this morning, to the point where I think it's ready for primer. I've probably got more iddy bits on it now than will survive painting..... The straps on the rear turret stowage aren't finished yet, need to wait for the putty tarp to fully set.... Glamour shot: Cheesecake: Paint next, I hope. I've got enough parts together to do a quickie very early M50, might be refreshing, or maybe that Tamiya Char B in the stash....

Great idea of using either canvas or leather straps instead of ropes! Looking great buddy... can't wait to see it primed!

Well, Dicky, I thought yesterday was Friday, so...... Primer! Andy, I figured straps would have been just as common as rope, plus it gave me an opportunity to truly wreck my eyes putting on those TINY FREAKING BUCKLES, but I'm okay now.

I'm a' ready! Busy schedule next week, plus gotta get to the gettin' place and get some more paint..... Ever wonder about the over-use of the word "get"? I do. So, while I was waiting for paint to dry/money to buy paint to appear in my wallet, I pulled a couple of shelf queens out, trying to decide what's next.....

Okay, I'm also blogging this build on Armorama (can I say that on TV?) and Tom Gannon (yes I'm name-dropping here) kindly let me know that I had an error on my mantlet extension. The part itself is bolted to the turret from the INSIDE, and the only weld is for a small flange that functions as a rain guard/splash shield. The original depiction was more accurate than my big welds. So, a little work with a small chisel and file, some MrSurfacer, more primer, file, yada, yada, yada..... After the weld removal: And later on, in grey primer: I have to put the two big slotted screw heads back on top of the mantlet extension, but I feel much better now.

Thanks, Dicky, and, well, if I were to say that everything I did went together without problems or that I never made a mistake, where I'm standing right now would be a smoking hole in the ground... Half the process is being able to fix a mistake, whether mine or the kits, at least in my lop-sided world. And I think that a major part of blogging is to show the WHOLE process, no secrets.

Okay, update: Paint is on, decals on, wash on and scrubbed, detail painting begun. Dacals are Bison, nice set with enough for five M50s. I used markings for a "command tank, Golan front, unknown unit 1967". They also happened to be the only markings for an M50 on an M4A3 hull. I had to cobble up a different antenna mount for the front of the turret and remove the port side bustle antenna mount. 'Nuff said, pics: Pretty in tan, before I added tah antenna mount: Decals and wash, new ant. mount on turret front, apparently using the hole for the smoke mortar: First scrub: And a little bit of Floquil "weathered black": More later, thanks for peeking!
