Hi all

Heres my next project that i am doing for a friends Dad who was in the Coldstreams, This is Victory Miniatures 150mm kit, and what a kit it is. Once i get the parts cleaned ill get some pics of them but the colours are huge. I think im going to have to get bigger paints

Love the look of this. Have been tempted often and now that I have got round to something other than Napoleonic, will be tempted again no doubt.

Hi all

Thanks for looking in guys. spent several hours cleaning this up and jointing it, all the joints,are pinned and the whole thing is pinned to the base. Just looking into the future, the colours will have to be pinned as well, as they are so heavy, but not sure how to do it yet. As its resting on his left shoulder i may well pin it straight though into the shoulder and then fill the hole.

This is how it looks at the moment, i had to use a bit of filler around the joints and also some milliput to finish the sash knot. another thing im contemplating is the bottom of the sash, as it is it appears to be stuck to his right leg, when in reality as he is leaning forward it would naturaly be away from the leg. it would be quite a bit of work to remove that part and then re sculpt it but something to think about

Hi all

OK got this primed and started on the face, i used the life colour set plus a few extra like red and black. The beard is mocha mixed with a bit of red and then highlighted with yellow mixed with the base colour going up to straight yellow and a touch of white







As always a bit more work to do but im quite pleased so far

Very nice work on the face Paul! As a side note, I've always wondered what the point of a chin strap is if it's going to be too short on head-gear like this...

Sorry Mac i had intended to do a little sbs on the face painting but dave (lastcav) is doing an excellent one so i thought id crack on

Bill no idea about the chinstrap, being ex RE we never bothered with them

Cheers Dennis, yep i went out and bought extra paint today

Just another quick update on the face, ive changed the beard colour to black, the original colour blended in too much with the face. also added a touch of red to the cheeks and various other bits and re did the eyes. the right eye still needs sorting. The chinstrap has been base coated im going to do NMM on the metal parts so ill give you a run down of the colours i use

Qick update, the face has had a few bits touched up, still not happy with the right eye but ill sort it, the bearskin was basecoated black and then highlighted with burnt umber and then flesh tones added to the burnt umber for higher highlights, red plume and blus collar, im going for NMM for all the gold work and started on the right side of the collar. This was base coated in burnt umber and has then had various tones of Green ochre up to yellow ochre then straight yellow with white highlights. it finally had a wash of burnt umber to tone it down

Paul this is coming along a treat. Your flesh tones are very realistic, I too prefer the black beard as the skin tones stand out better with the black beard. I also really admire the effect you have obtained on the collar lace, please keep posting.

had a go at the tunic last night, the base colour is deep scarlet and it had 3 coats to get a good base, I know a lot of figure painters just shade red and dont put any highlights in, mainly because if white is used you get pink, so ive experimented a bit with oranges and yellows. so the low lights were the base colour mixed with different parts of burnt umber, the highlights were the base colour then a touch of orange added going up to yellow added. the light on the pictures has washed it out a bit but ill try to get some better snaps later

Cheers Andy, i think your right about red always seems to be a pain to do.

carrying on with the red ive gone for straight burnt umber for the very deapest shadows and a pale orange for the highest highlights. ive also base coated the stripes in burnt umber





for the stripes they had a coat of green ochre then lightend and then a wash of yellow ochre and highlighted with white.





Its a pity that really none of this will be seen as the colours cover it

Super work there Paul, really neat how you're able to get the colors to look so vibrant. As for the one arm being obscured by the colors, well consider it good practice for the other side which will be visible.
