If my experience tells me anything, the AFV kit will be more accurate, but be much more fiddly. The DML will be an easier build, minus the poor instructions.
I'll definately be following this one Tony. Love the way you've got it laid out for comparisons!

The one up side of just building SPGs BJ is being able to save up for the next new one that comes out which is not that often. I've noticed that AFV has knock out marks where they don't need to be though. Can't have it all I guess. Tony lee

Making good progress here Tony! Quite interesting. Are both kits original to their current manufacturers? I know sometimes kits are reboxed after the molds are purchased. Tony I'm born, raised and worked an entire career in St Louis, Mo. I am very familiar with the weather...........that's why I moved...... G Yes, both kits were original, all-new toolings by both manufacturers.

Day #2 AFV Steps #5,6,7,8,9,10,11 and 12 The track pin setters are not tagged in the instructions so you'll find them on L #5. In step #9 part number N2 is one of those black neoprene retainers like Tamiya uses on their wheels and not plastic. DML Steps #3 and 5. Less steps because a lot more is crammed into each one. The male part of the round hatch hinges are not tagged on the instructions. They are on the smaller "A" sprue frame #21. Front: Rear: Right Side: The fans are trick but I don't think you'll be able to see them. Back side of fan assembly is detailed too for you interior builders. From the Top: So far no problems with fit. Just sand off the nibs and drop it in the hole. In fact the front plate on the AFV is just laying there. I want to spray the interior with some black since the drivers port is open. With all my Love Tony lee

Day #3 AFV Club The rest of step 12 and then 13,14,15 and 16 Install fighting compartment rear lifting eyes before the ammo box. DML More of step #3,4,5,6 Careful with the left side template (H2) because you can't get it out after gluing the optional parts in, plan ahead. Tony lee

Right now the Dragon kit looks better, but the AFV club kit seems much better to build...which is what I would be looking for hahaha
Glad you're doing this!

Looks like Dragon is catching up. Where's the muffler for AFV I was wondering? I was wondering the same...also seems odd the AFV kit used the PE to cover over the holes in the gun base. Nice comparison Tony

Great idea for a thread....I think detail wise the AFV kit will be better overall, but it has rubber tracks so the dragon indie tracks might be better? So, the 3 in 1 would be Nashorn early, late and Hornisse? Can't wait! Paul Paul,I may be showing my age here, but everybody knows, the 3 in 1 options are, street, custom, and drag racer Jeff T. Heheh, funny Jeff! Paul

No mystery on the muffler guys, the Nashorn went through modifications in its build life. The DML version with the large Pz-IV type muffler was an early design element while the AFV Club has the later 'simplified' exhaust ports with no muffler. The exhausts just ended under the fender edges.
Looking forward to seeing the guns compared Tony!

Maybe we should start a betting pool so we can wager on the winner? I recall its illegal here in USA but the server is located in Grand Cayman so we are allowed to do this, right? Same here... can't wait to find out who is the winner. I have the winner in mind but I am not telling!

Sorry for being late to the party but company showed up and when they left the storms rolled in and I shut down the computer. When this variant first rolled out(Hornisse) they were modified on a monthly bases until they reached what was called the "Standard" (Nashorn). The AFV is the Standard version but the DML can be build as a Hornisse, first model, or a unit with a combination of changes and or a Standard. Why the holes and then cover them up? ?? The commander thought those Laker pipes were cool, real men don't like mufflers. Time to refill the coffee mug and get started on those guns. Tony lee
