G and Deano, glad to have you fellas along for the ride!! Should be a fun one and yes G, there will be plenty of tasty weathering to be had!! LOL!
I am still plugging away on the write-up but have gotten the majority of it done. I will have a bonus review soon for this as the author of Dessert Eagle Publishing's D9R Doobi Book, Michael Mass, is supplying me with a copy for review!! An 80 page more than 200 photo walk around that more or less goes hand and hand with this kit. These folks were part of the planning process going into Meng's kit as the instruction booklet has the Desert Eagle logo on it and the book covers 3 variants...the same 3 that can be made from the kit! Looks to be one of those "must haves" when building this kit up!!

Ian & BJ, thanks for hanging out for a bit!! So far this is shaping up to be a really nice kit!! I managed to rip into the tracks...not the first thing called for in the instruction but I was never good for following the rules!! The links intertwine with only one glue attachment on one side of the track pin. The underside of the track shoe there is an ejection pin mark. this will be all but invisible after construction. I just wanted to show the quick fix if someone chose to do so. A little putty, a quick sand and gone! So bad, this is not to bad of a process. Clean up seems to be the most tedious part and that is not bad at all. I will be plugging away at the tracks first and may start the under carriage at some point soon. I figured get the track installation underway early on! Thanks for tuning in!!!

OMG!!!! Those tracks are mouth watering!!!! Starting on the tracks is a great idea. Working on the tracks a little at a time throughout the build helps from getting burn out.

I was a bit skeptical at first with them but once I got the small run together and the acted just like Fruils....sold! LOL...reducing burnout is a bonus!!

Mr.T
Here I am bringing up the rear in my usual slow way. If I were to build anything out side of my 1945 limit that would be the kit at the top of my list. Ill be watching this to see how the master works. Those track links look from here to be spot on for the real thing along with the track pads.

Hi Bones! Not in the rear yet...LOL!! Only one length is done so far! I "dabble" in the new is all, but thought this was rather interesting! A little change in pace!!
Hi Paul...all that! LOL!!
Not a bad kit guys! 696 parts...270 are the tracks, most others are good sized and a tiny amount of PE not to mention the price is not to killer. I will have a treat for this one soon too...I have the Dessert Eagle book: IDF Armor Series No.7 - Doobie D9 Variants on its way...should be here soon! This is the be all end all of walk arounds for this kit. Not just because there are over 200 pics of this beast but DEP worked with Meng on the kit design...I assume this since there name is printed on the instruction booklet!! I will put up a review of the book as soon as I get it!

Those tracks almost look good enough for the Ehmar Male/Female tanks - just the placement of the bolts thar appears to be off- probably a very expensive way of doing it though... P

OK, time for another quick one. The tracks were being done out of order from the instructions so as I go, the second set will be done...I guess that means one is done then!! The instructions called for 43 links in the tracks and there is a set of end links as part of the regular sprue trees and not the track trees. Someone sent a link to me of a Korean forum where a builder ran into issues with the links...43 too loose and 42 too tight. Since I do not have the bogies assembled yet, I chose to stop the pattern at 42 until I check the fit for myself. The individual on the other forum had not used the end links, not that this would cause the problem but being safe rather than sorry right now! Step one of the construction then. The Undercarriage. A quick dry fit shows things will go together nicely. I managed to get the parts cleaned up from step 2 and these will be fit to the undercarriage shortly I think! Moving right along now! I will be cleaning more parts than installing tonight I think! Dragging my feet a little waiting for the Desert Eagle book on the D9 to arrive!! As always, thanks for dropping in for a bit!!

Mr. T
Looking over your shoulder and see you are moving right along, those tracks are not live tracks and can have some sag, cant imagine that one link would go from sag to being too tight.

Hey Moose!!! Glad to have you on board my friend!! Hey Bones!! The sag on these things is slight at best...not sure what the individual did though...I don't read Korean and for some reason I could not translate it!! It did look like he had a heck of a time working the bogies on this one. The mold on his kit was less than desirable looking....problem might be there. I checked my kits parts for the bogies and there is a couple of small mold seams on the seam side only but nothing I would write home about!! Quick, light sand is all! Could be he had a prototype production run?? Pushing forward!!

Mr. T
My money (and I just lost a bet with my sweetheart) is on the tracks working, if never had a problem with one link being a killer with dead tracks. I have had problems with live tracks where one link is too tight and adding a link gets you sag.
