Hi Losboz, I remember reading the part about Smudges painting as I wasn't expecting a DY 38(t), as excellent as it looks! On page 2 after the painting process had been completed Pete (Smudge) said: "The tank has been sprayed with a mix of tamiya dark yellow & white finally finishing off with a very light tone. At the start of the build I was going to paint it in a tri colour scheme but I've now gone with a single colour and plan on depicting a vehicle used on the southern Ukrainian steepe". I hope you don't mind me Hijacking a question about your build on your blog btw, Pete If you are ever unsure about a good, basic DY colour you cannot go wrong with either a 50/50 Tamiya Dark Yellow (XF-60) & Tamiya Deck Tan (XF-55). That's what I used to use to make a good solid DY colour and when that was applied I'd add a spot of white into the airbrush cup to add some Colour Modulation highlights to panels etc. at the end of my spraying session. I don't know what ratio Pete uses but as you can see he uses white in place of Deck Tan to make up his DY colour. He'll tell you what ratio he uses. I wouldn't recommend using Tamiya Dark Yellow (DY) straight from the bottle as it's too strong on it's own and after washes and weathering it will be a very dark coloured vehicle, hence the 50:50 cut to lighten it right up. I now use Vallejo Model Air and Model Colour for all my basecoats or if I fancy a Color Modulation basecoat I break out the AK Colour Modulation kits as I like to use the Colour Modulation Kits a well modulated build looks great. I'll still use the basic Tamiya mix if I'm just doing a simple 'quickie' build Hope this help buddy, Ben

Cheers Ben, Los I used a mix of tamiya dark yellow and white in a ratio of 50/50 then I like to add more white bit by bit and thin it even more. I then spray this finely in selected areas. I usually go for a very light tone as I then darken the overall tones during weathering but also keep some of the highlights. I suppose it's like modulation but my approach is something I have perfected over the years.

Great job on the thrashed look, at first I thought you might have overdone the chipping but the washing has blended it in quite well

Hey Pete, Truly superb work my friend - love it! I'm in the middle of building my 38(t) too. I've gone with Friuls seeing as I already had them in the stash but apart from that it's all oob - what a great kit! You've done really well here. I'm undecided between the grey or tri-tonal scheme but after seeing your's in the DY has made me think that a DY scheme with very fine red/brown and green lines. I've just about to update my blog Pete - almost there now with just the turret to do tomorrow Ben

This is looking real nice mate but if i may suggest... If you make your chipping more subtile then it looks even better. I don't mean make it less but if you make smaller chips it even looks better. For the rest, congrats on this one

Smudge
Excellant work mate. I'm not a fan of German armour but I do like the 38T. Might pick one up myself for after the BT7.

Superb bleedin' work Pete! This is a stunner! If my 38(t) works out half this well I'll be VERY happy! You've nailed this a treat my friend A question - I was thinking about fitting an antennae and adding wiring like yours but I'm wondering - this antennae obviously needs to be able to be super flexible to account for the barrel/turret turning? Have you looked into this or just put on a normal piece of stretched sprue/Brass antennae? Do I need to ammend the length as all my antennae are Brass RB German Jobs and scale out to 1.4 metre and 2 metre. Again, great work! Ben

Great work there Pete! Looks right at home on the base. A question - I was thinking about fitting an antennae and adding wiring like yours but I'm wondering - this antennae obviously needs to be able to be super flexible to account for the barrel/turret turning? Have you looked into this or just put on a normal piece of stretched sprue/Brass antennae? Do I need to ammend the length as all my antennae are Brass RB German Jobs and scale out to 1.4 metre and 2 metre. You don't need to worry about the antenna Ben, the base was a flexible rubber mount and the antenna itself a hollow rod (rigid) that could 'flex' within the mount if needed within certain limits of course. German antennas including those on the 38t were standard 2m length. The 1.4m length was generally used only on the 'star' type antennas for command radio gear. HTH!

cheers guys glad you like it, Ben I used a standard brass antenna mate not worried about it as the turret won't get moved.
