Thanks guys Hey G good to be back So my first shot at three color camo. Can't say I'm over happy with it. It looks like a giant mess to me. Perhaps with filters, washes, and a bit of cleanup it'll get better. Regards, Mark

I think it's a good base to start from. With all the weathering, filters, washes, scratches and so on you can make it shine

Seeing that a free hand camo is 1 of the hardest paint jobs with an AB i think ya did fine buddy the key for me when painting freehand camo keep ya paint thin and keep close too the area your spraying another idea for a camo like this would be to cut masks from paper and blu tack them to the model keeping a slight gap between paper and model this way you can get a tighter painted edges and still gives you a free hand look i think once you get some filters and washes on it will look a lot different hope this helps ya buddy

Dan's ideas work for me, maybe also you could lighten each base colour slightly and go back over the model to give it some subtle shading and lightening. It's a good base for further weathering too.

What aren't you happy with Mark? Is it the pattern itself in terms of how it looks on the vehicle or something more specific? The weathering process will always alter the tones as you know, so always have to think ahead to how it will look as an 'after' vs. the 'before'.

Bill it's OK I take my meds on a regular basis Got out the DA airbrush and did a bit of fading Acryllic glosscoat next, and since I'm trying new stuff anyway I may as well give weathering with oil paints a shot. Regards, Mark

Thank you gents Been playing filter I need to get an incandescent worklight over the bench neon does not cut it. Will probably do some more filtering as it's not quite there yet Regards, Mark Screwing the model to a 2x4 chunk was one of my better ideas; I can handle the model without damaging not cured paint

Deano-Thank you sir
Nemo-I can't vouch for its accuracy either but that's what I've been able to extrapolate from pictures that make the vehicle look one color and what other guys have done. Oh well my heart's still beating guess I've gotten away with it...Arrgghh!
Pete-Thanks also, and yes I must arrange better lighting
Regards, Mark

WHOA! I just love the decals! What a color contrast they bring...
Can you do me a small favor? Can you edit your header subject to include 'King Tiger'? So that way if we ever want to find your KT build later on, we can use the search tool to find it. Know what I mean? You can say 'King Tiger: Back at it" I can do for you if you want me to.
Again great work on ur KT!

Andy-Guess you beat me to the change, haven't been around for a couple of days as time's been short. Supposedly 332's numbers were this color...I don't know, but they're on and sealed. Carl, Bill-Thanks for the kind comments As said, time's been short so not much bench. In spite of this pinwash and flatcoat have gotten done OK photobucket's being difficult so just the one I guess. Now time to play with the oils he he Regards, Mark

Coming along nicely Mark! Sweet camo job! The fading and pin wash really make it stand out! Ditto! I was originally going to say if you really aren't happy then I'd go back to it and have another go but that recovery job looks great so stick with it. I'm glad you're liking the kit - I took receipt of my first ever King Tiger only yesterday (Henschel Turret version with the pre moulded Dragon Zim that I like - kit #6303). The instructions look identical to your's so are the only differences between our kits the added Zim on mine? What kit number is your KT? Keep the updates coming - it's looking sweet so far! Ben

Wingy-Thanks man it would not have turned out so if not for advice and how to's from those like yourself CC-Thanks also and you're doing a Tammy are you not? Gary-Glad you like it thanks for stopping by Modelfreak-I've heard it said that the mark of a craftsman is how well one can cover their mistakes, so far I've been able to be crafty. Thanks for the kind assessment Hinksy-This is kit 6254. I think most Dragon stuff comes from the same molds, the difference being the new sprues thrown in for another version. Just conjecture, I can't prove this. You're gonna like yours if it went together as easily as mine. Thanks for the look, happy ya like what ya see Phil-Thanks brother I was not sure it was gonna turn out but there's always that uncertainty factor when trying new stuff And as to trying new stuff, I played with oil streaking for a couple of hours. Oil paint's quite different to work with I find and there seems to be a lot of mistakes one can make...I know 'cause I think I made all of them. I am learning however and I do believe that this is going to be a regular part of finishing for me. It turned out thus so far As always, comments critical or otherwise are welcome Regards, Mark
