Tough call on whether or not to open the panels. The engine will look great when you're done with it but the lines of this series are so nice

T, thanks and yes, had to make the most of the time available. Listened to a football game streamed over the net and the day just flew by...CB gets a little breather! Joe, you and me both...hopefully this one won't have too many issues along the way (fingers crossed!) MF, that's funny considering Armor is usually referred to as the 'Dark Side'...so is this the not-so-dark-side and yes-we-have-cookies department? Glad to have you along for this one. Marc, I know...I think it's all going to come down to how well the 'loose' panels fit or not. Trumpeter designed this so you could leave all of them off if you chose...top, bottom, both sides, etc. I won't go that far, but some choices will have to be made regardless. BJ, some of these 'RLM' colors look suspiciously like RAL colors...that RLM 66 'Schwarzgrau' is a dead-ringer for Panzer Gray...I wonder if Goering just didn't want to share his paint stocks with anyone else?

Tony, well it's my own fault for getting into a bet with CB...he won! Steve, Trumpeter provides a good bit of detail for the cockpit and engine areas but it's not 100% complete. Still, a good foundation to work from if you're so inclined I guess! Except for the cockpit, the rest of this will all get hidden away.

Work continued on the 109 a bit in the cockpit and engine areas. Step 3 adds the twin MGs along with the engine mounts. The MG assembly is a little tricky as the gun barrels fit very loose in their mount points with the gun bases, so getting them aligned properly requires lots of patience and test fits to get it right. I decided after looking at reference photos and seeing the rather large ejector marks that are present on the engine access panels that I would go ahead and close up the nose and not display it exposed. Trumpeter didn't include all the engine detail (some tanks and other items are missing on the left side in particular) and it will make life simpler to keep things closed up. I added the fishtail exhausts, working one side at a time to ensure they would line up correctly with their openings on the fuselage. Their mount points into the engine block have some play in them so it's essential to get them all lined up just so to avoid issues. I also found that I had to cut away part of the hose assembly on the right hand side to allow the engine brace mount to line up correctly on that side, otherwise everything went together smoothly. Steps 4 and 5 deal with the landing gear so will cycle back to them later. Steps 6 and 7 add some interior details to the cockpit areas so I tackled them next. That's as far as things will go this weekend due to the NFL playoff games kicking off, next up will be working on the propeller and other various details as I pick my way through this before starting in on the AB work.

Bill, good to see you're making progress on the One Oh Nine mate.....whichever one it is!! .From my limited experience of Trumpy wingies, there does seem to be a vagueness about some of the fit, which I personally don't think is a bad thing,in some respects,as it allows for a bit of adjustment to align everything during the dry fit.I think I've got 4 of the 1/32 Trumpies 'in progress' at the mo....

Dicky, CB, there's definitely a little bit of 'play' in may of the parts fits on this kit. Not sure if that's by design on Trumpy's part or not, but it does require lots of dry-fit along the way to ensure everything will play nice with each other. Nothing that a little vigilance can't overcome. The MG barrel-base fit wasn't a huge issue, just a case of the barrel pins being smaller than the base openings which allowed them to droop if you weren't careful as the glue set up. Andy, I had a feeling you were 'otherwise engaged' yesterday for a period of about 3 hours! That was quite a comeback...down 38-10 and managing to outscore the Chiefs 35-6 to win. Will make the next round of games very interesting I think! Up today of course is the 'Ice Bowl II'...will be watching it 'live' instead of DVR along with the other early game today. Fingers crossed that the Niners won't get frostbite!
