I hear you there Lui, definitely one of the things I used to dread when building AC, the Eduard masks sure shortened the time in that department!

Real nice progress Bill and the kit looks sweet I haven't built a wingy since 1979 and this build just might be the decider Los

Thanks Los! If you do end up building a wingy you can lay it on CB as it's his fault I'm building it in the first place. This particular kit has a lot of nice detail to it IMHO...the only downside is that with all those panels designed to be removable, it creates the possibility for tiny little variances to creep in if you're not careful.

Looking great Bill! Are you going to do the waffle or regular horizontal zimmerit? Well since this is a Tropen scheme I think I'll go with the zebra pattern with some nice random palm fronds to break up the outlines.

Bill, again,I gotta say that you're doing a fine job of getting this kit looking good, mate! ....I have to say tho,as a rule,I tend to leave all the sticky outty bits(Aerials, counterweights etc) until the main painting, and decalling has been done, for fear of the CM getting his teeth into them!

Thanks CB! I can certainly understand that as a process especially on smaller-scale aircraft but given the size on this one I thought it better to go ahead and attach all the main stuff. Will definitely have to be careful in handling it, that's why the 'legs' are dry-fit to help provide a convenient stand for it to sit on until the painting and decaling are done.

Nice work on the canopy!!! It takes forever to apply masking tapes on those canopies especially on helicopters.

Nice work on the canopy!!! It takes forever to apply masking tapes on those canopies especially on helicopters. Thanks Andy! But I have to give credit where it's due...I used the Eduard die-cut flexible masks instead of trying to do it myself. Still took a bit of patience to get them all in place but definitely saved some time and aggravation vs. trying to mask it off on my own.

The much anticipated painting sessions arrived this weekend, first order of business was the application of a pre-shade pass with Flat Black. Canopy was airbrushed with the RLM 66 so it would show as the inner color on the frame and the rudder was airbrushed with Insignia Red. Since the kill markings decals have to go here, I figure it will be easier to work with it off the model and then attach it later. Next came the application of the RLM 79 Tropen top-side color, airbrushed in light passes to build it up and still retain the pre-shade effects where desired. After that had been allowed to set up overnight, I masked off the demarcation line and then airbrushed the RLM 78 lower/underside color. Same approach, light passes to build it up over the pre-shade. That was allowed to dry for a couple of hours and then more masking and painting sessions to get the white wing tips and fuselage band on and then finally the RLM 04 lower engine access panel. After checking reference photos for Marseilles' 109, it looks like the front cap on the air filter is also white, so that's why it looks a little unfinished at the moment. It's going to be painted by hand along with the other remaining details in the next round. Now it's time to go watch the Super Bowl!

Looking really great there Bill!! Shading, paint masking....it ALL!! You're in the home stretch, just about!! Getting closer, but there's still a TON of decals to put on this baby...so the finish line is still out there a bit. Glad to have you stop by, halftime's over...back to the SB!

T, yep, decals, then weathering, still a lot to do on this wingy-thingy! Marc, yes indeed, the Seattle Bowl. Talk about domination! I thought it would at least be semi-entertaining...even the commercials were kind of ho-hum. BJ, thank you kindly sir!

This just goes to show that a Good modeller,is a Good modeller, whatever genre he's working on!! ....Top notch work on this Bill, she's looking fine in her foundations!! Mac McConnell has a saying for this.."Top Drills",which to me is very apt,so keep it coming Mr.P.

Thanks Gary! Now it gets to sit and 'gas-out'/cure for the week...not unlike myself after yesterday's game! CB, much appreciated and thank you kindly sir! You may notice that I also took your advice regarding the antennas...as I was doing the initial masking, they both promptly popped off and went straight into the 'holding bin' to avoid their potential consumption by the CM.
