Worked on the remaining details in preparation for getting the 109 ready for the markings process which will be a substantial undertaking given the sheer number and size of some of them. First up was dealing with the engine exhausts, these were given a base coat of MM non-buffing Metalizer Gunmetal, lightly dry-brushed with MM enamel Steel, then given a light wash of MM enamel Rust. As the wash was drying, I applied some raw umber artist pastels to give them some rust tones and then followed that up with an application of black artist pastels for exhaust/soot accumulation. The nose MGs were also picked out with non-buffing Gunmetal and a light dry-brushing of Steel along with the screens on the Tropen filter. The landing gear was permanently installed along with the gear covers and wheels and set off to the side to set as the weight of the full airframe was causing the legs to bow out towards the front. Once they were solid, I added the propeller and spinner assembly, using finger pressure and combination of regular and liquid glue to get it into alignment with the rest of the fuselage. So that the rudder gets sealed up along with the rest of the airframe during the Future application, it is dry-fit and holds its position well due to the friction fit on its mount tab. The Future coat is next, then on to the decals. It's starting to look like a 109 I think!

When an armor guy does a bird they usually find the decal process a bit daunting since they are used to just s few numbers or crosses on a turret. It's really looking great and will only get better with markings.
Are you going to spray or brush the Future?

Looking really good Bill, I like all those pretty colors. But, for the life of me, I can't figure out where the Model Kasten tracks fit on this thing.

Leon, thanks buddy! Andy, Marseilles' bird had lots of colorful markings, the red tail is one that I thought was pretty neat as well. MF, no secret, when I was a kid I built AC almost to distraction. At one point in time I had no less than 40 of them hanging from my bedroom ceiling including some monsters like the B-29 and B-36! But that was a long time ago... Marc, the decal process is definitely going to take longer but Trumpeter provides a lot of very nice stencils and do-dads that go all over the place so it will definitely add to the detail level. I always spray Future vs. brushing when it comes to decals as it serves a double purpose of also sealing/protecting the underlying enamel paintwork when it comes to applying any kind of weathering. Lui, glad you like where it's headed! BJ, all those RLM colors can sure be a distraction...the MK's are secretly mounted in the glove box behind the pilot's seat. Shhhh! Don't tell anyone... Gary, thank you kindly sir! Glad to have you stop by.

Ok I see it's a 109. Until now I thought it was a low wing Piper. You need to get back to your roots Bill, these wingy folk are getting the wrong impression. Tony lee

T, had to break up the decals into a multiple session so I could at least have some places to handle it in the process. Round 2 may be a tougher challenge with all those little markings! Andy, you don't want to marry this one, it will just fly off into the sunset with someone else when you're not looking! Have to agree, the markings really do make a difference on this bird.
