Leon- Thanks buddy... painted the eyes tonight. They look good... will post pics tomorrow when they re dry.
Frank- Amazing what we can do with just anything in our hobby. Hope to see somebody use the feathers instead of resin pieces one day!
Mr T- Thanks boss! Still a long way to go... can't wait to finish this so I can start working on the Little Bird. LOL

Making good progress on the details Andy. That cat looks ferocious...maybe you can use some of your chipmunk stash to keep him happy?

Professor- Thank goodness chipmunks are not bothering us at this moment as they are hibernating now. We got our first snow and I don't see any fresh holes... LOL Glad you liked the cat... wait until you see its eyes next! Guys- Painted the eyes last night... not exactly my favorite part but I think I did OK. Still need to add white reflection dots and apply Future coat to make eyes look smoother. The cat... The Polish... used brown for pupil so its hard to see in the pic this time. Still little more work to do. Hope you like 'em?

Another great night at the bench... thanks to cold weather! I think the Polish head is done painted... only need oil washes. I looked at the cat eyes... I went back at them making the pupils little bigger and I like them better now. Did a lot of detail painting... highlighted the metal as it is hard to see in the picture using my iPhone camera. Thanks for looking!

Thanks professor! Not exactly my favorite part painting eyes but it was surprisingly easier this time maybe I forgot it was not a 1/35 but a 1/10 scale. Maybe I should do busts more often...

Finally, Andy, great to see you coming back to this project! As I had to take a month pause, I'm glad to see your bust coming to life. And what results (I like too the eyes, of the hussar and the cat). The beard, I think, still need some work, and also the fur, especially the head of the cat. Keept it on, still some steps, you're so close to a great finish! Cheers, Nicolae

Leon- Thanks my favorite wizard... happy with eyes I am not going to touch them ever again! LOL Nicusi- Hey there! Still a long way to go... I will tackle the fur and beard with the oil paint but that will be the last step. Not looking forward to painting spots on the cat! Thanks for stopping by! Mr T- Thanks boss... freaking cold that I have been wearing sweaters for last 2-3 days. Did I ever mention I hate wearing sweaters? LOL

Wow, great progress! The cat is painstakingly cool, the eyes rock! By the way, one question: Do they install glass eyes into the fur before drapping it around the shoulders? This couldn´t be the real eyes of the animal... I haven´t done Busts till know (always wanted to sculpt an Predalien Bust from the design stages...), nor painted and I guess they are really painfull because of their seize. I mean, you have a light and shadow from the real world on them and how much have the paint job to go not to overdo it... Heck, difficult question, but I guess I would do a more "overlighted" paintjob on them. So move along, you are on the best way!

Hey Frank! Thanks my friend! Excellent question about glass eyes... that would be awesome! I used bright kinda neon green since jaguar had that kind of eyes. I thought it would be cool and eye catchy... I think you will enjoy doing busts. I wish they are not that expensive... price range between $45 to $75 for 1/10 busts. I am huge fan of Young Miniatures... you can't go wrong that way.
Just wait until you see my next update... I think the face is 99% complete! LOL Thanks again!

Update on my bust... thanks to our friend Dave. He suggested couple of great tips. Painting darker skin tone under the eyes and inside skin folds between month & nose. Then I highlighted the eye lids again with lighter skin base. Only one more thing I need to do to the face... oil washes to the beard then apply highlight again.

Hi Andy you are making great progress on this one the eyes of both the man and the big cat are great. The Hussar really looks as though he is giving someone the evil eye. Keep up the good work. Dennis

It just getting better and better with experience and practice. Dave with Last Cavalry sent me a great S-B-S and it was very helpful. I was very happy how the eyes came out... will not touch it again! LOL Mr T- LOLOLOL! Believe me its freaking cold that I have been wearing sweater everyday this week. In some way I miss being overweight... the extra fat kept me warm! Thanks my friend!

Another update... worked on the cat. Added spots, worked on space around the eyes, mouth and nose. It is almost done... will work on the nose one more time before I can apply thinned raw umber oil paint on the fur. I have two bases for the bust... I am leaning toward to the tree stump cause it looks more medieval and it is bigger too. What do you think?

Hmmm. Yay and Nay. First of all: Youre doing very well with that bust and I agree that contrast is a "must have" on a bust. Struggling to do so by myself in the past, I found out that the mixture of washing, oil (if you like - not everyone does!) and highlights is most important. Easier said than done of course. Regarding the (human) eyes, I paint some very light grey first, then comes some red washing (Carrobourgh Crimson from GamesWorkshop, in my case). All eyes are sealed with an acrylic coat of clear color. But thats only my way and many many lead to Rome, of course. The Base... Id keep it classic, although the birch is a nice touch. Theres no size comparison, unfortunately. Is the bust bigger than the base? PS: I know its a bit late - but does this help? www.phoxim.de/forum/index.php?topic=1810.0

Andy, first, the paint job becomes better and better! Was it good before, now it is top notch. The face looks really good, the eyes top! And the subtle fleshtones fit perfectly. The same goes for all the details on the Body, especially the Cat. Really well done till now. As for the Bases, I would go with the real wood. The White makes a good contrast to the colourfull Bust and I think the overall look of this Base with the figure rounds it up togeterh. And, heck, love the Young Busts, too! They are great!!

Lucas- Thanks my friend! Guess what? Your wife said the same thing... best to keep it classic and she reminded me that my previous bust has same base so it would be nice to use same base for all future builds. I like what she is thinking... LOL The bust is little bigger because of its wings... its pretty HUGE! See for yourself...
Frank- Appreciate your nice words... it just gets better and better. Can't wait to finish it today hopefully as I am going to apply thinned raw umber oil paint.
I am now tempted to get me couple of busts from Young Miniatures. LOL Visited its website and I got my eyes on US soldier of Vietnam War and Special Forces of Afghanistan War like shown on the movie Lone Survivor...

Quick update... the head is glued to the body! Added metal rods to the wings so that way I don't have to glue the wings to the body. WHY? It will make it easier for me to bring it to the shows... those wings are very fragile so it would be best to keep them down and flat. Be on look out for last update hopefully tonight... thanks again!
