Gun rest, hull MG and some more paint on Belton: I had a bit of a set-back, found the rt idler axle broken, probably from the stress of the track install, so I had to rob a Tamiya parts kit, then found the first road wheel on the other side was a floater, so another part out of the same kit fixed that. Now it's down to the final dust and finishing the fig. I also snagged some .020" carbon fiber rod at the hardware store the other day, gonna try it for the radio antenna and see how it looks.

Thanks, Andy, and Merry Christmas to you and yours! I treated myself to an order from HobbyEasy, about $800HKD (Monopoly money....) in SpadeAce and Friuls, and my darling bride of 26-plus years presented me with this: There may be room in the man-cave for a small booth, will find out soon enough, I think.

Nice Christmas score with the airbrush and compressor! I use an Aztek all-metal body double action for all my work and absolutely love it. Yours is the plastic-body version but is essentially the same double-action brush. The best advice I can give you is to practice with it on an old model or some scrap plastic to get the feel for the trigger and setup and then go to town! Depending on which nozzles came with it, you may want to get some additional nozzles for different applications, but those can be had online quite cheaply if you shop around.

Thanks all. Plan is to have the mantlet armor on some kind of heavy wooden table, and rig up an A-frame and hoist over it. Belton will be a casual passer-by, gazing in awe and wonder (like that?) at the gun tube.... Bill, I need a regulator, and to re-arrange my work space, but I'm looking forward to it. It's been 40 years (gasp!) since I used an air brush, whoa boy.

Make sure you get a regulator that includes a moisture trap (if you haven't thought of that already) as it will make a huge difference in your neck of the woods especially in summer! The Aztek is very user-friendly IMHO...especially when it comes to the cleaning and maintenance aspects. Have fun with it!

Will do, Bill. Moisture trap is on the "must-have" list. So, a quick pose-test: I had fun making the hammer. Anthony, the wife is a gift...

Love that guy with the big hammer! Way too cool...
I have moisture trap for my air compressor you would be surprised how much water it traps at end of painting sessions!

Yep, humidity is rough. I used to get a couple of gallons out of an 80-gallon compressor every couple of weeks. Nasty stuff too. Andy I've decided to make a "resolution" for the new year, which is: In situations where it's appropriate (non-combat), inject a little humor into my builds, using a combination of setting and figs. This is pretty much the first, although the two guys in one hatch on my M1 Super Sherman were close.... Anyway, I think it's part of the fun in modelling. Cristophe, I've heard the AA conversion is actually very good, seen examples of the end-result in several places. And of course the Tamiya Pershing, what a sweet-heart!

Thanks, guys. I think that after I get the big chunk of soon-to-be-added mantlet armor painted up and pics taken, I'm going to stick a fork in this one.

Boy oh boy, talk about old business, I finally got back to this one, I guess because I needed something simple after doing the ball and chain armor on the Merk4.... Anyway, I scored a Squadron "Tarmacadam" resin base a little while ago, and after mounting it on a piece of 5/8" plywood and sanding down the noticeable raised corners, I began prep and painting. A quick coat of gray primer, followed by some black and brown, then a black wash and lots of pastels got me where I wanted to be. A stand for the piece of mantlet armor made from balsa and a couple of chocks for the Pershing, also balsa, and I mounted Belton where I wanted him. I still need to finish painting the mantlet armor, but the rest is done. I'll get some pics with a clean background then, but here's where I am now: Thanks for all the comments, it's been appreciated.

Thanks, Leon. I got e nice set of real-live wheel chocks made up last night and did some uglifying of the piece of armor, but it was raining this morning so I couldn't get any pics in sunlight. I did try with indoor lighting, and things look pretty brown. I took one pic with flash: Here's the same shot w/o the flash: Big difference..... And a couple more: Once I get some good outdoor pics I'll put this in the Gallery and call it done.

Thanks, Leon. I re-did the hammer head last night. I give up, I wimped out and thought about contest judges more than humor.
