I had always planned for the A-7 to be heavily weathered. Which I’ve never done before.
Maybe took it too far
I don't know about taking it too far Keith. In the latter stages of the war, these birds saw heavy use and had a fair amount of wear and tear. The fact that airfields were constantly moving and the time spent on maintenance/ care of these birds dwindled as well. From all the pictures I've seen I think it's safe to say that you're pretty close in terms of a worn battle bird. You sure did some outstanding work on this beauty of a model pal.
The one thing I saw in your build that I also saw in my Eduard A variant build is the cowl guns have a slightly upward angle to them. I'm not sure what steps to take in pointing them downward on my next Eduard build up of this aircraft. I will say that the only reason I noticed this is because it stands out to me on my own build.
406 Silverado - I also noticed the guns and attempted to correct. The issue with possible correction, would be potential altering alignment on other pieces. I was thinking of adding a dot of superglue under the guns to bring them down, but there is a chance the glue won’t hold and it would then leave an ugly superglue mark. I’ll play with it tonight and see if I can find a fix.

Still need to obviously add wiring and engine latches. Plus step ladder, gun barrels and a few other misc things. Those I’ve found are best to add at the VERY end so you don’t accidentally break them off and lose them to the abyss

Personally I wouldn't do anything with it Keith. You've done such an outstanding job on this bird and these opened up builds are so fragile that modifications like correcting the issue with the guns would more than likely result in undoing what you've accomplished with this. I'm going to be building another one of these in the future and am going to be concentrating my efforts on correcting that issue then. IMO......leave 'er alone bud. This looks great!!
fragile is an understatement. I’ve broken off those engine panels maybe 7 times in the last week LOL
Yup.......I get the "heebee geebee's" when I have to handle my A-8. This one of yours is a masterpiece and there won't be many that'll notice those guns unless they've gone to the lengths that you have here themselves.
That's the only reason I noticed.

I like the weathering. Granted I’m no Luftwaffe expert but I’ve sure seen some pretty dingy looking photos. Another thing, this group build sure has made the FW190 even more into one of my favorite WW2 birds. Every variant just looks cool!!! But I’ve always been a sucker for radial power. Great stuff Keith. Can’t wait to see more.

Sorry yall, I couldn’t let it go LOL. I removed a bit of grime around the cockpit entrance. I added more exhaust stains further down the fuselage after referring to more reference material.
Sorry for the bad photos. Proper photos of the A-7 will be taken tonight once it’s complete. Onto the D-9!!!

Well folks.. The A-7 is officially done. It ended up taking all night to do leaving no time for the D-9. Tomorrow night I will hopefully get it weathered and done.

Congratulations on the news from Eduard. Looking forward to the diorama. Did you mix up a spray for the glue and put a layer on top of the dirt? I did for my train diorama and it worked very well.
project510 - I didn’t apply any more glue above the dirt. The reason is because I will next apply a nice layer of AK Interactives Terrain mud. By leaving the top layer of soil loose, it mixes with the mud. This mixing feeds fine “pebbles” towards the top of the surface which I will go back towards the end and hand paint. This hand painting step I’ve discovered gives you a good opportunity to add many different shades of grey and lends to a more realistic look.
Overall my steps will be:
Cut foam board Apply real dirt Cut and attach wooden supports for camouflage tent Apply terrain mud. While drying put in tire marks etc Add static grass strategically Add other types of foliage Prime the whole thing in black Airbrush desired shades and colors Dry brush highlighting colors Handpaint details Add planes (will remain removable) Add in diorama “fluff” (figures, carts, barrels, etc) Add top of camouflage netting
When I say camouflage net, I’m referring to this:
Updates:
An assortment of my fluff assets. Still need a bit of sanding, but otherwise ready for paint -
I still have a few tables I wanna build and a set of pressurized cylinders for welding. I will also be making probably another 3-4 barrels.
Eduard has asked me for photos of my builds and wants to feature them on their instagram and potentially magazine.
A very large congratulations my friend!! Both are worthy of the recognition with the craftsmanship you showed building the A-7 and D-9. Again congrats!!!
