Nice start to the wreck Oliver!!! I like the inspirational shot of the KV2...very cool!! Upside down with the two cable hanging off....right on!! If possible, you can try and use a rotary tool to slightly roll in the edge of the through-shot on the side of the turret. Or even taper in the edges a bit with a needle file. Not sure how much that will be seen if she is upside doe to begin with but worth a .....shot Looking great fella...keep it going!!

I was just looking around Google images for derelict KV's, and i came across it - I don't think that I have seen any pic like it before I'm probably going to do a little bit more work on it this morning, but the Dremeling might have to wait till tomorrow - It's not even 7AM yet here, and i work at the local library from 4-8:30. By the time i get back, my lattle brother might be trying to sleep. -Oliver

Off to a nice start Oliver. Your doing better with this one. The KV kits are nice, cheap and perfect for this type of modeling.

Just a quick question; would anyone know a site (or sites) where i could get metal tracks for the KV-1S (fruilmodel, etc)? I don't really know much about who makes metal tracks, as any help would be appreciated I honestly can't remember if the 1S uses the same tracks as the original KV. If this is the case, then i can just get some KV tracks. -Oliver

Those tracks look good. I have some resin tracks for my KV that I still have to finish. These Trumpy tracks look good to me. Will have to get a few sets for all my KV's

Thanks all for your feedback and links to tracks! I now have multiple options, although i am still unable to tell if the KV-1S used the same tracks as the KV1 or the same ones as the IS-1 - fruilmodel doesn't seem to have any KV-1S specific tracks. I also have some more pictures (I have added some "bolted-on tracks to represent field modifications, among other things): And the turret: I moved the headlamp to the turret and imitated it being welded on: I don't know if you can see it in the pictures, but I added (fake) bolts and plates to hold the tracks on. I did run out of them at the end though, and had to make some for the last set of "Track-armor" - the small front piece. Continued feedback is welcomed . I will continue to work on the KV-1S, but will not be able to finish until I order the tracks and they arrive. -Oliver

Hmmm... Which track sets do you guys think that I should get? The Trumpeter tracks (here: www.buymodel.net/showproduct-3592.html ) are movable and, while plastic, are designed for the 1:35 KV-1S. On the other hand, I could also get fruilmodel tracks (from here: redfroghobbies.com/products.php?cat=45&scat=250&prodline=Friul_Model ) for the KV-1 (they will work with the 1S as it was just a KV-1 with less armor and a different turret). The problem is that the fruils are 40$ (twice the price of the Trumpeter tracks), and they don't have the distinctive bolt heads - it's kinda hard to add that to wire. If i went with the Fruil's, would anyone know where I could get just the bolt heads from somewhere - I'd put the wire in the middle and the bolts on the outside so it looked nice AND worked. -Oliver EDIT: I just did some more research, and realized that the KV-1S uses the same type of tracks as the IS-1, SU-152, etc. So pretty much what I said above, it's still between the Fruils and the Trumpeters, as RedFrog carries the kv-1S fruils as well. Link: www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/friulmodel/atl-54.htmlEDIT 2: I also just realized that the Fruils have fake bolt heads on the side of the tracks that will be visible, so that's no problem now.

LOL...I don't blame you for bumping it M8!!! So many posts....just busy!!! I like the fruils...one site should have the bolt on it. There is always a bit of quick drilling to remove the slag from the cast but you never go all the way through! So, the bolt on one side faces out and the wire in. The MK's would be nice too!!! I you need the bolts and /or you go with another then check with Tichy Trains...they have nuts and bolts in styrene for every occasion!! As for the base, I like the country lane a lot. Another option is our own Steve Reid's Celticwerks base www.celticwerks.net/gallery/cws011-uneven-cobble-stone-road/ well worth the dough and looks awesome!!! If you end up talking to him about this one, Steve also sells the Nuts, Bolts and Washres from Tichy!!!

Basically it's up to you which tracks you decide on, or can afford. I myself like the Fruils.
Got to agree with the T, the uneven road does look great when painted. I think I have a review in te reviews category of that one.
The one thing I would do is alter the spare tracks on the turret, the side with the big hole in it. Remove the last couple links where you cut the square notch. besides that it would most likely been blown off, the track is cut too square. Maybe just chop it a bit more, or to just one of those links so they aren't squared and even.. Just a tip. Your doing nice work on this one.

Thanks again for your comments guys! I have decided to go with the Fruils, and am also going to get the Russian Modulation Set from AK-Interactive (as well as some brushes also from them, as I need some more). I might also get some other weathering stuff from them, too. Relating to the base, I have decided to do something different (although the CelticWorks one looks AWESOME!, nice painting Rob!). To save money (as I'm a 14 year old on a budget ), I am going to make my own base. Here are some pics so far (I just got a damaged ceiling tile for free from Home Hardware, and cut it up): The wall/thing/etc will be a stone buttress - I will carve it once the plaster dries a bit. The whole dio will prttey much be a brick (or cobble) road with the aforementioned buttress. I'm not sure how I'm going to display the KV-1S yet - maybe it will be stopped for reloading (with ammo boxes strewn about?, or maybe tracked and left there. Relating the the tracks by the hole, I have now touched that up, and one piece is leaning out a bit away from the tank (although I don't know if you can see that in the picture): As I was taking pics of my workbench, i though that might as well post some pics of what the Sturmie looks like now: I'm not sure at this point if I should leave it as-is until the dust powders, rust etc. come from AK, or if I should try again with the HairSpray. -Oliver

Thanks, east! ;D I'm not that good yet, but I'm getting better (you should have seen some of the things I made when i was new to modeling! ). I will be posting some more pics as soon as i get home from fork (of the dio, that is, as i have done no more on the KV since yesterday). I'm also going to hopefully order the parts etc that i need to continue tonight. -Oliver

Nice start, for the base.
I suppose you will pick all those individual stones with different shades, to make them realistically uneven...
