Good evening MSC'ers, the last days, I had no time for the Patton. I have started with the first layer - the dark green. But only a few small parts by now. I finished the wheels and they are ready for primer and the first layer of rust. I think this week I will not make so much because of work. I have late shift and after this call out service the whole night. So the rest of the day I spend with sleeping and family. Maybe I can do more painting on the weekend... 5DMKII_21036 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_21040 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr Like I told you, this is the first layer. After chipping is complete, a lighter green will follow and will be chipped, too. Cheers, Matt.

Good evening gents, nice to see you like it. Yesterday I painted the second layer with the lighter green color. I also made the chipping, but had some problems. I used Tamiya varnish to protect the dark green. When I made the chipping, something reacted (the varnish, or the hairspray, or the salt with the water) I don`t know exactly what happend. But I tried my best, to save the model. The next problem is the light green color. In my opinion it`s not light enough. You can`t see so much differences between the two green tones. So I consider to paint a third layer of a much lighter green, to get a better contrast. But I am not sure. So many layers of color on the kit is maybe too much? What are your ideas to this problem/ what would you do? I can also try to light up some areas with oil colors, but I don`t believe I can light it up enough with this technique. 5DMKII_21486 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_21489 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_21492 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_21494 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

So guys... after I thought about the color problem the complete afternoon, I decided to paint some chipping by sponge and brush. I started with the turret today and the result looks pretty good (in my opinion). I painted some light green chips by hand and sponge. After this I used the dark green color and did the same procedure. After this a pin wash with AK dark brown was made. I added some difference in the color by using some oil colors. That`s it. Tomorrow the lower hull will follow... 5DMKII_21496 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_21498 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_21499 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_21500 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_21501 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

I think your chosen method will work judging by the effects you've achieved on the turret. Go for it!

Now that is what I'm talking about. Been some time since I ventured into the rusty category. I think it all looks very good. The chipping is perfect and the pre rust is awesome. It'll all come together in the end.

I never had such a problem/ reaction with varnish. Normally I used the vallejo products. This was the first time I used the tamiya varnish. Maybe it was to old, or I used too much thinner. I don't know. When I started dampen the color/ hairspray and made the chipping, the areas looked all the time wet. I used some Q tips to dry these areas, but after a few second it looked wet again. I did this several times until it stopped. I think, now it looks ok.
Dicky you are right, I wanted the green ton much lighter, but I decided to leave it in this way and only light up some areas by brush ( with acrylics and oils). The color did not stick very good on the brass parts. And after three layers of color and to chipping procedures, it was too risky in my opinion to make another layer and chipping. But now I am really happy with the result. Ok it's not as light as I wanted. But there are also Pattons in a darker green tone...

Have to agree with jackwagon on the tracks. there is no sag so you can go with the rubber ones...as long as they look good. Some rubber tracks look like crap no matter how you paint them.

Hi MSCers, here comes the last short update of the M47 before I go to holiday. I finished the hatches and the wheels. I tried how the rubber track fit on the model and how it looks like. Here are some pictures of it. 5DMKII_21801 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_21803 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

Have fun on your holiday Matt, you've got this one right where you want it IMHO and those tracks ought to do just fine after a little paint and weathering.
