I think those tracks will do the job. Once they are painted and weathered they will compliment the tank. Some faded gray-black for the rubber and old dark rust will light dust coat for the metal. Get back from holiday and finish this one off...lol

@ Rob: I think so, too. Next week I am back from holiday and than I will finish the tank and the tracks. The big question is the base. I have two different options. The first one is a forest area, where the tracks are a bit sunken in the ground. With some leafs and plants and so on. For this diorama I would like to paint some green areas on the tank, to simulate some moss. The other, totally different option is an old place build of stone plates, like you have on the old russian army areas. With some grass between the stone plates. I am not sure, what gives the tank a better 'home', the forest or the military trainings area. What do you guys think?

I'm with Dicky, the rusty old 'gate guard' fading away has a lot of potential.

I am surprised by that result. I thought the most of you prefer the forest base. What would you use for the paved area?
Cheers Matt.

I'd go with the old pavement with cracks and grass and weeds growing through.

That's the reason, why I ordered some evergreen sheets in different sizes today. Maybe it arrives at the weekend...

Hmmm my original post has vanished from here but then I have been kicked off site 4 or 5 times tonite..... That's a clue detective........................... I agree with the paved area and grass growing between the pavers. That will be a great finish for this stellar build. G

Hi MSCers, I am back from holiday and the stuff for the base arrived, too. I think in the next days I can finish the tank and start with the base. Only the wooden base is missing... 5DMKII_22766 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

Mmmmmmmmmm styrene I'm in! Hope yer had a great break Matt - now back to the bench, we've ALL been sat here waiting twiddling our thumbs! This is true, it's been killing us! Nice to see you got a restock on the white stuff Matt, looking forward to seeing this one move along with the base.

Some good additions for the base there Matt. I am interested in seeing how those paper plants look when painted and on a base. I need to get me a bunch of them.

So... the most stuff for my base has arrived. Now I can start with that one. Yesterday I tried my first ivy tendril. First I was very skeptic, but I have to say it looks really good. I used the ivy from 'Green Line - Fredericus Rex'. This is a laser cut ivy tendril on a green paper. I painted the leaves with some yellow and white to show some leav-veins. After this I bent the single leaves and added some more single leaves to the tendril. I think the result looks good. What do you think? 5DMKII_22967 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_22971 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_22972 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_22982 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr The next step is the pavement of the base. I started this evening with some 2,0 mm styrene sheets and cut them in 5 x 5cm squares. I hope I can finish this and post another picture this night. 5DMKII_22980 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

Getting caught up here Matt. The Ivy looks very good. Where did you order them and how much does one of those cost ?? Just trying to compare to other products such as these and the plants. I'll be needing quite a bit for the Panther dio. I was thinking Scenic Express / Silflor products but they are a bit pricy. I have the Ivy type but it doesn't look as god as yours.
Now that I see you started the base layout, I have to cut up a base for the Panther and the KV kits, not to mention a large base for Thor....argh.

Hi Matt, this looks very good.
I had a little talk with Conny, the owner of Fredericus Rex. He told me that oil colors are the best for coloration the lasercut leaves. Yellow and dark green oil colors an a piece of a sponge.

Thanks, Rob I feel everytime honored, to hear that from you. This is a german product, which is called 'green line' from Fredericus Rex. On one sheet are three ive tendrils. One sheet costs about 4,- euros. I am not sure, if these guys send to the states, too. I am not able to make my own bases. I have to buy them and mostly they are quite expensive... Thanks Roland, very interesting to hear that. Do you have some more information about this. I have searched the whole internet for some infos or tutorials, how to paint the green line products. I didn`knwo that and used some Schminke colors from my airbrush... Now to the actual status of the base: I finished the basic layout of the pavement. Now it`s time for some scratches and breakings and flaws. 5DMKII_22983 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr 5DMKII_22987 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

Dicky you are soo right. This is the first time, I work with styrene, but I must say this is an fantastic material. I am very anxious to see the pavment painted. The FR products are really cool. I love them, too. ...and a BECKs is a must have when you build a base!!! I hope I can post a picture of the complete aged pavement this night... Cheers Matt

So my friends, it`s time for a base update. The last days I spend with the cracks of the pavement. Needed a bit of time, to make all the single plates with different cracks and structures... But today I finished it and fixed it on the base. The gaps were filled with bird sand. Now I start with the border stone. 5DMKII_22989 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

That looks very cool Matt, replicates cracked/worn concrete that's been exposed to the elements for a long time perfectly IMHO.
