Good evening gents, the last days I spend with the painting of the base. The pavement itself is nearly finished. Maybe I will add some filters or oils on single plates to give it a more random look. I started with a grey and lighted it up with white and sand yellow. This is the first time, I tried some kind of color modulation, to give it a more 3-dimensional look. 5DMKII_23019 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr This was the first look of the pavers. But in my opinion the color transition was too strong. (between the darker grey and the light areas). So I painted the whole base again and lighted up all. I added some splatter with white, dark grey and black, to give the pavers more stucture. 5DMKII_23021 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr After this I used a dark broun wash to bring out the scratches. The edges of the border stones were highlighted with some light grey and white. 5DMKII_23022 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr I also started with the tracks. Here I used the good old pigments to get the rusty look. Next step are the rubber parts. 5DMKII_23024 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

The second pass on the pad blocks did the trick Matt, very nice. The wash and other effects give it a very realistic feel. You would never guess they were styrene IMHO.

Thanks my friends for the nice comments. The base starts to get the right look. I added some grass on the two corners, but I am not very happy with it. Maybe I will change this again. Between the pavers I added some grass, too. In the corners of the border stones and under the tracks I made some dirt scatter. I like the look of it, but it has to come more together. Maybe with a wash or some pigments, I don`t know... How would you guys do this? Ideas are welcome. 5DMKII_23026 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr Here are the first look of the complete scene. I will add some more grass, plants dust and so on. 5DMKII_23030 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr

it looks great mate, really sets it nice off. I hear your concern though. Not that I'm very experienced, but you can try to pic out the grass a bit more using different shades of green. And maybe a mild buff filter coat sprayed on top of the groundwork to tie things together? Even if you decide to leave it that way it looks good
Looking forward to see what you'll do
Cheers

The stuff between the cobblestones and the dirt scatter looks very nice Matt. As for the grass in the corners, it looks a little too uniform/neat...I'm assuming they would suffer from the same sort of neglect as the pavers and the tank that's rusting away under the elements. Maybe add some weed-type growth or a small tree/seedling growing up in one of the corners for a little more visual variety?

The last days I spend with the base and the plants on it. Today I was shopping, to get some more stuff for a real looking landscape... 5DMKII_23031 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr I tried to blend the dirt with the pavement together. I don`t know, whether it is enough... 5DMKII_23033 von mad_airbrush auf Flickr Next step are the two corners...

That makes a huge difference...if it weren't for the background, it could pass as a photo of a real scene!

Having the foliage growing up underneath the vehicle at the rear is the perfect touch, very nice. Enjoyed watching this one come together Matt!

Beautiful touch with the weeds growing thru the exhaust pipe and brush thru the tracks. This really ended up perfectly Matt and you did an awesome SBS along the way!! Bravo!
Cheers, SKi.

Thank you so much, my friends.
Edi, the next project will be a VW bettle (1952) --> totally rusted, of course. With this model I will try some new techniques, too. This will be the first time, I make a wooden fence and a kind of an old wall.
